Fresno, California - Matthew "Matt" Thomas Guagliardo of Clovis, California passed away on March 22nd, 2023, at the age of 78 following a battle with cancer.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on February 14, 1945, to Joseph and Mary Guagliardo, he and his family moved to Fresno, California in 1949. While a student at McLane High School, he excelled at cross country having the honor of bearing the torch for the 1960 winter Olympics. Following graduation from high school, Matt went on to attend and graduate from Fresno State.
For many years, Matt worked in the financial services industry but found his true niche providing real estate services to clients throughout the state. Matt was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail and ensuring that his clients were able to achieve their goals. He was regularly recognized for his success by ReMax Gold.
Matt was passionate about many things: his "cara mia" Virginia Sanchez, his faith regularly attending mass at St. Paul Newman Center, traveling throughout Europe, cooking and entertaining his many friends and colleagues, and being an ongoing advocate for social justice and humanitarian causes, the most recent being his role in coordinating fund raising and support for the people of Ukraine.
But it was "His" team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, that provided Matt with countless hours of joy (and agony). He could recall countless player statistics, describe key plays in games and would (almost) always be "waiting for next year."
Matt is survived by his son, Tom, his fiancé and life mate, Virginia Sanchez, his brother Joe and wife Terry Freeto, and his nephews and their spouses Andrew Guagliardo (Aleca Borsuk), Steven Guagliardo (Katelin Williams) and John Guagliardo.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Paul Newman Center on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 10: 00 AM.
