RICHARD HANSON Obituary

Richard Alan Hanson, M.A., Psychology, of Fresno, Ca., left this life for the next on Saturday, September 15, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born in Oakland, Ca. on November 30, 1936, the only child of Barbara Ethel and Claude M. Hanson. Richard touched many lives during his years teaching at Fresno City College from 1965 to 2003. He was one of the most honest and sincere people you could ever hope to know. From the time he was a little boy, Richard had a love for and very special place in his heart for cats. Aside from his love of teaching and learning, he loved fine art, reading, listening to music, great food and wine, good company, a good cup of joe, taking long drives, and trips to Carmel, Yosemite and Tahoe. Oh, and there was that unique sense of humor he loved to share. He proudly served his country in the California National Guard. "We already miss your smile, lion heart and beautiful blue eyes. Rest in peace." Many thanks to Hinds Hospice for their gentle, kind and compassionate care during his last weeks. The comfort and peace they provided him were a blessing to his family. Also, thanks to Auspice Home Care Solutions for coordinating his in-home care. He is survived by Deanna, his loving wife of 35 years; his in-laws, Susan and Manuel Diez, Elizabeth Musso, Susan and Jim Daniele, Manny Diez and Lauren Diez, who helped him with love and affection in his last years as he bravely lived a life filled with the challenges of vascular dementia. He also leaves behind a niece, Katherine Musso; and nephews, James, Matthew and Nathaniel Musso. A Celebration of Life will be held at Farewell Funeral Service on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Hinds Hospice, 1616 W. Shaw, #A5, Fresno,Ca. 93711 or Valley Caregiver Resource Center, 3845 N. Clark St, Ste. 201, Fresno, Ca. 93726. Farewell, 660 West Locust Avenue, Fresno, California (559)440-0484

Gods Blessings of Love and peace go out to all of you. We fed and took good care of Richard in the FCC Cafeteria and then he became like a big brother to me through my "other" Daughter Dena...Will always be here for you Dena and will always continue talking to Richard in Heaven... Love all of you, Mama Carol

I just posted the following tribute to Mr. Hanson on my Facebook page:

A very sad loss indeed...I was one of Mr. Hanson's students in his Psychology 7 class at Fresno City College in 1986.

My deepest, thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to his wonderful wife and caregiver Deanna, to Manny Diez, and the rest of Mr. Hanson's family.

I loved hanging out with Mr. Hanson and Deanna at La Boulangerie in Fig Garden Village, and did so for years. I had become rather concerned recently because I hadn't seen them in quite some time. Deanna was ALWAYS WONDERFUL, and a VERY GENEROUS CAREGIVER, and her love and devotion to him was boundless, and so heartwarming to see!

R.I.P. Mr. Hanson. You will be sadly missed!! :-(
