To the family, he is missed. He was fun to be around, and he always teased his "little brother" Harvey Mayo. I met Stanley Jr. just before marrying Harvey. My father could not be at the wedding, so Stanley Jr. walked me down the aisle. He and his family were nearby, and we visited him, Anna and the girls until we moved away from Fresno. Any time we were able to touch base with him in our visits, we tried to make time for Harvey's older god-brother. More than a friend.

I remember Stan from our days and times at Lincoln University, especially during the pledge process. He was a heart and soul member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. No one walked in Omega ,as Stan saw to it that, that didn't happen.
I remember him playing in the band, playing the drums. His rhythms were always tight.
I remember his value to Lincoln and with his presence he helped make Lincoln into what it is today.
This Kappa Man salutes a truly great Linconite and Omega. We will miss him.

Dear Stan,
You have been as strong as a battle ship and as tender as the heart of an angel. My wife and I shall always cherish your friendship, love and support. One of my greatest accomplishments at FUSD was to accept Melinda Homola's recommendation of your appointment as the Assistant Superintendent of HR. And and again upon her retirement, she also recommended you to succeed her as the Associate Supt. for HR. Your motto of "If you can't deal with a student's heart, don't try dealing with his head."shall always be my constant guide on this journey of providing hope and great expectations for students. We love you my brother and one day we shall all meet in paradise. You are truly one of God's Angels. My condolences to your lovely family whom you cherished with such great pride and joy. God Speed!

The largess of Stan's heart was rivaled only by the passions he held in life; family, friends, music, flight. He held a bigger-than-life spot in my life, giving me at my wedding in place of my father. His down-to-earth manner spoke of simplicity of life, an uncomplicated honesty, and the love of those dear to him was not hidden from view. Know that my heart is burdened by this loss, and to all family and friends, may your hearts be lightened by the gathering and support of others around you at this point, sharing in the memories and the love.

Stanley was one year older than me, and I knew him when we were kids at Columbia elementary school until I left after the 3rd grade. He was one of the kids who always used to call me "honeybee" after I played that part in a school play in about the 1st grade. He was always tall and always had a huge smile on his face. I was small and and he always used to give me a big hard friendly hug like big guys usually do -- you know, right around the neck, real tight, not realizing I can't breathe like that! Stanley always made sure the kids bigger than me never bullied me. I used to run into him throughout my youth on the West Side. He was awesome as drum major with the Edison High School band when I would see him in city parades or on the field -- he was the first drum major I ever saw in Fresno who led the band with that way leaned back strut that looked like he was just going to fall over backwards!! The last time I talked to Stanley was when I saw him at a track meet at Fresno High in the early 60's as he was getting ready to compete in the discuss throw. I remember to this day what he said with his huge smile, "I'm real proud of you, you've grown!" Made me feel real good and just about big as him, though I was still pretty short. That was the Stanley I knew and will always remember, he just made people feel real good about themselves. After college I left Fresno for about 27 years and after moving back I never realized until today that Stanley has been my neighbor just down the street -- wow, what a loss for all of us.

It was a joy working for my friend, Stan, in FUSD, Human Resources. We shared great stories about our families that I will always remember. On a weekly basis, he shared pictures of his grand-daughter Zoe. Boy, did he love that little girl!
It was hard to believe that a giant of a man could be so humble, shy and sensitive. But, that was Stan.
