Jimmie Cornelius Obituary

Funeral service for Jimmie Ralph "Corney" Cornelius, 83, Rockledge, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Howelton Methodist Church with the Revs. Jerry McCright and Joe Dismuke officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 8 at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Attalla.
Mr. Cornelius died Friday, March 18, 2011, at Marshall Medical Center South.
Survivors include his wife, Reba Jo Byrum Cornelius; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sherry Cornelius; grandson and his wife, Jonathan and Melissa Cornelius; granddaughter, Hollie Marie Balliet; great-grandson, Josh Cornelius; chosen family, Allen and Rhonda Burns, Little Allen, Austin and Karyn; along with his brother and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Cornelius; his parents, O.C. and Hazel Cornelius; and his brother, Robert Cornelius.
Corney was an active member at Howelton Methodist Church. He worked for 33 years at Republic Steel in Gadsden as a rigger. In his younger years, he loved racing boats and fishing. While he lived in Attalla, he coached many Little League baseball teams. He was a charter member of the Racking Horse Breeders Association and loved going to horse shows.
Later in life, he became involved in raising and showing exotic birds. He was a past member of the Etowah County Mounted Sheriff's Posse.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Sherrill, Allen Burns, L.C. Thornhill, Robert Eubanks, Johnny Cannon, Randall Denny, Mike Brown and Bert Lister.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jerry Chandler and the staff at Cardiovascular Associates, Alacare Home Healthcare and Alacare Hospice for all their help, and to Jenny McCormick as caregiver to both Dad and Mother.
The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
