Phillip Hancock Obituary

Phillip Franklin Hancock, 64, Gadsden, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017, after a brief illness at Riverview Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oaklin Paul and Mary Ruth Bolt Hancock; guardians, Helen and Don Quenby; and sisters, Paula Jean Garmany and Phyllis Hancock.
He was a 1971 graduate of Glencoe High School and entered the military in the fall. He was married to Linda McAfee Hancock from 1974 until 1990 and had two daughters, Melissa and Rene. He retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving 20 years. He then worked as a security guard at Pinkerton, worked in the traffic division and as manager of U-Haul, Gadsden, and retired from Federal Mogul because of health issues. He loved his children, grandchildren and family. He was well respected by all who knew and loved him. For years, he enjoyed being the security guard at the North AL CH Youth camps, where the kids all loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Rene (Thomas) Steele and Melissa Cooper-Wardin; two brothers, Paul (Martha) Hancock and Perry Hancock; two sisters, Helen (Harold) Gibbs and Patricia (Fred) Jenkins; and six grandchildren, Brandon and Jason Steele, Aaron, Haydon, Quinton and Gracylin Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers, who deserve special thanks, are Dr. Hakim, Dr. Quillow, Dr. Naughton and the CCU Unit at Riverview.
Funeral service, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017, from Dansby Heritage Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. As per his request, he will be cremated following the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to North Alabama CH Youth Camp, c/o Jimmy Williams, 155 Hardwood Hill Drive, Centre, AL 35960.

Dear Hancock family, I am so sorry about Phil ... while I know you are hurting over him being gone, may Holy Spirit comfort your hearts during this time of grief and give your peace. While Phil didn't "make it" down here, so to speak...We know he made it to the place of everlasting life: Heaven...where we all want to go!
