Demetrick Watson Obituary
Demetrick Antrell Watson, 32, passed away Tuesday Feb. 16, 2010, he was employed as a Linesman with Georgia Pacific. Demetrick a graduate of East-side High School class of 1997, he also attended Morris Brown Univ. Atlanta, GA.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara J. Watson, Gainesville, FL. one daughter, Whitney Watson, His compan-ion Monique Duggan Three sis-ters Rhonesha, Charnasta, and Maeonya Watson all of Gainesville, Fl. Maternal Grandmother, Lillie Harris, Gainesville, Fl., Patrenal Grandmother, Berma Thomas, Johnson, FL., One Brother Rolaundus Watson Gainesville, FL.
Funeral services for Mr. Watson will be held on Sat. Feb. 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM Eastside High School Audito-rium. Minister Harry Jones Of-ficiating, Burial will follow in Gil Gal Cemetery under the care of Chestnut Funeral Home 18 N.W.8th Ave Gaines-ville, Fl. Visitation Friday Chestnut Chapel 2:00 - 7:00 PM and on Sat. in the audito-rium one hour before the ser-vice. There will be no viewing after the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the chapel on Friday from 6:00-7:00 PM The cortege will form at the home of Mr. Watson 426 N.W.7th Ave Gainesville, Fl. At 10:15 AM.

I was Demetrick's 7th grade language Arts teacher at Westwood Middle school. Day one I tell my students to let me know, Day One, if they have a nickname they would like me to call Them. Demetrick Watson asked to be called KoolAid. I gave him a funny look and thought, I am not going to call any student koolAid. So I affectionately called him Meter.
(Many years later the significance of his chosen nickname, "KoolAid"
was explained to me. This white lady leaned so much that first year!!!!! :) It is my 28th year at Westwood and I will always remember those first lessons the students taught me, how kind, patient and understanding they were with me. I have great more great memories of my fist year, thanks to Meter and all his buddies.
My fondest memory of Meter however, occurred the 2nd week of that year. I had repeatedly asked Meter to sit down and get on task. He was 20 feet taller than me so as I looked UP to get his attention, I tried to look as authoritative as I could. Them he smiled! Anyone who knew Meter know just the smile I saw that day. I had to turn around so he wouldn't see me cracking up. I was hoping he had returned to his seat so I took a chance and turned back around. There he stood hovering over me smiling and then he said, "Oh Mrs. Shrum, you know you can't be mean." Well, I've gotten better at faking "mean". To this day sometime when I see that smile on the faces of other middle school boys, my heart always smiles.
I am so, so sorry that KoolAide is no longer with us. I was devastated when I was told, just this April, of his home going.
I would have been at his funeral. By now, I hope time has lessened the pain but Demetrick lived and that we will never forget.

It's been awhile since I last saw Meter, but when we did see each other he was always the same. The news of his death comes with great sadness. I know right now that it is hard for the family, and I will pray for God to send comfort.
Anytime someone that you know passes away, it makes you analyze your own life. It helps you re-focus on the things that are truly important, and appreciate people more.

I remember playing with Demetrick, his little sister, and his cousin, Kesha, whenever they were at his aunt Betty's house. He always had a way of keeping you laughing when we were in high school. He was always respectful and he was true to his real friends. He was always friendly and full of life. God bless the family at this time of surreal bereavement. I hope his daughter always remembers that she had a great dad. May the family keep her memories of him happy and joyful.
