JAMES HARRELL Obituary
James C. Harrell was born to Cephus and Zulena Harrell February 5, 1939 in Gainesville, FL. He died Friday, March 9, 2012 in Panama City after a brief illness. He retired from Bay County District schools in 1995 after years of teaching and coaching football and track. He taught and coached at Bay High School, Everett Middle School, Rutherford High School and Rosenwald Middle School. He was head football coach for Vernon High School and head football coach for Marshall County High School, Lewisburg, TN. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Master's in Education Administration. Earlier, in his professional life, he had been a Licensed Funeral Director graduating from Gupton School of Mortuary Science, in Nashville, TN and was a former staff member of Jones-Johnson Funeral Home in Gainesville.
After retiring, he went on church mission trips to Mexico, France and Turkey to coach football...
He is preceded in death by his parents: Joseph Cephus Harrell, Suzie Zulena Harrell and step-mother Edna Harrell, infant grand daughter Elizabeth Ann Hopkins.
He is survived by his loving wife Toni Harrell, 5 children, James "Cephus" Harrell Jr., Wade Hampton Harrell, Joni Suggs, Lisa Hopkins (husband John), James "Kirk" Harrell (wife Karen), 7 grandchildren, Chuck Hopkins (wife Torie), Kristen Hopkins, Patrick Suggs, Michelle Suggs, Kathryn Harrell, Kelli Harrell, Ian Harrell. Two great grandchildren, Bryant Hopkins and Alysa Davis, brother, Henry Harrell (wife Iva), sister, Hilda Fussell (husband Robert), nephew, Robbie Fussell, nieces, Holly Fussell, Katie Fussell, Michelle Harrell and Christy Harrell Griffis (husband Danny).
Graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery near LaCrosse with Dr. Don McGarity officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN 404 North Main Street. In lieu of flowers, please make your donation to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at 100 School Avenue, Panama, FL 32401.

Coach Harrell was one of my favorites at Vernon. I got to see and talk with him recently, glad for that opportunity.

Coach Harrell was an amazing man who gave such wonderful advise to me and to so many throughout our teenage years.I was very fortunate to have known him. I have thought about him often through the years and his kind words of wisdom. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to his family.
