NEWELL, JOAN ELIZABETH (PETRONIS)



Waterbury - Joan Elizabeth (Petronis) Newell, 65 of Kay Lane, passed away peacefully at the home of her loving daughter Susan on November 4, 2007 in Old Town, FL., after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Frederick Newell and former wife of the late John Brazee Jr.



Joan was born April 4, 1942 in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Bernard Petronis and Martha Busch and lived in Watertown most of her life. She was a graduate of Thomaston High School and Saint Mary's Hospital School of Nursing as salutatorian of her class. Joan was a dedicated nurse for 22 years and enjoyed cooking, pottery, and Indian Painting.



Besides her daughter Susan (Brazee) Brownell of Old Town, Fl., she leaves three daughters; Beth Brazee of Thomaston, Mary Brazee of Winsted, Amy Petronis of Bridgeport, a son Peter Brazee of Richmond, VA., a step son Alan Newell of Waterbury, a sister Suzanne Overbaugh of Lakeside, two brothers Bernard Petronis Jr. of Chester, Ronald Petronis of Bantam, fourteen grandchildren, one step grandchild, and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son John Lewis Brazee III.



Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of her family in Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston. There are no calling hours. THE O'NEILL FUNERAL HOME, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779 has been entrusted with arrangements. Joan's family extends their deep appreciation to her Hospice Team who enabled her to spend her final days in the comfort of her daughter's home. i know that gramma loved james very much she was so proud of him and will be one of his gaurdian angels.

My prayers are ewith you all. James asked frequently about his Gramma, was she better, was she healthy again? I had to keep telling him how ill and hurting she was. He truly truly loved her!
