Marcus Woodrow Hunt, age 94, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at North Florida Regional Hospital.

Marcus was born July 18, 1915 in Alton, Florida to George Otis Hunt and Dora Wooly Hunt and moved to High Springs at the age of two.

He owned and operated Hunt and Sheely Dry Cleaners in High Springs until his retirement in 1984. He served as a High Springs City Commissioner for 35 years and served a term as mayor of the city.

Marcus was a member of the First Baptist Church of High Springs. He was a member of the High Springs Masonic Lodge #137, and a member of the Santa Fe Chapter #105 Order of The Eastern Star. Marcus was a charter member of the High Springs Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Georgia Daniel Hunt; 2 daughters, Janette Sheely of High Springs and Annette Sheely of Lake City; 4 grandchildren, Angela (Perry) Van Cleve of Alachua, Tamara (Kevin) Summers of Richardson, TX, Marcia (Dennis) Lange of Boca Raton, and John Sheely of Lake City; 4 great-grandchildren, Marcus and Laura Summers and Kirsten and Hannah Lange.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of High Springs with Reverend Morris C. Beck officiating. Burial will follow at High Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs on Friday, August 21, 2009 from 6 -8 PM.

Arrangements are under the care of Evans-Carter Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of High Springs or Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.

Mrs Hunt, Mrs Sheely, Tamara and Family -
I am sorry for your loss. Mr Hunt was a wonderful man. I have such fond memories of him. High Springs has lost another of the True Gentlemen - a true pioneer of High Springs.

I have known the Hunt family for so many many years. In my thoughts, I see Tamara and Heather as children together-as now I see young Marcus and Moss, Laura and Mariana growing up together. We are blessed to know this family.

We are here if you need us for anything.We shall miss Mr. Marcus

Mrs. Georgia, what a wonderful thing to know that you had 72 years with the person in life that you love. God is good.
