Marcus Lamb Obituary

Lamb, Marcus G. 87

In loving memory of Marcus Glenn Lamb, January 27, 1921-January 13, 2009.

Mark was born in Mound, Texas to William Easter and Fal Lamb. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his son Brian, and two half sisters, Francis Hudson & Joan Cook.

Serving as a bomber pilot in WWII, Mark saw action in Europe and the Philippines. After the war, he continued in the Navy Reserves and retired as Lt. Commander after 23 years of service.

After his discharge he was a flight instructor, attended the University of Miami & had a long career as a plumbing and building supply salesman.

Mark enjoyed fishing and camping and was an all-round handyman who could fix anything. His skills were much appreciated by family, friends and neighbors. He had a wonderful sense of humor and kept the people around him laughing much of the time.

After retiring he volunteered for the USO at Miami International Airport as well as the gift shop at South Miami Hospital. He attended Baptist churches throughout his life, especially enjoying the Bible studies & the potluck dinners.

After living all of his adult life in Miami, he suffered a stroke and the onset of dementia and could no longer care for himself. He moved to Gainesville in 2005 and lived with his daughter and her husband, Cindy and Tom Bergbower of Gainesville, FL. He attended Al'Z Place (adult daycare) for his last years & enjoyed the companionship and care of a skilled & loving staff.

He died peacefully at Hospice Haven fully cared for by staff and family. He is survived by another daughter, Marcia of Miami and a son, Gary who lives in Palm Beach Gardens. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons, and a half sister and brother, Tommye Holt and Charles Lamb of Texas. Mark truly walked as a "tall" Texan during his life. He was loyal and generous and his family always came first. We are honored and blessed to have had him in our lives.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held at home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Haven Hospice of North Central Florida or Al'Z Place of Gainesville.

I would like to express my sincere sympathy to the entire extended family, but most especially, to Gary Lamb. We grew up attending Ludlam Elementary School together, living on different streets but in close proximity.
As a quick update, Nancy Edwards is back in her mom's house helping take care of her, and I am back in my old house with my mom who just turned 90! We are still in contact with Linda and Dana Abbott and my brother, Steve Dowling lives in Ft. Lauderdale. If you wish to say hello, feel free to email anytime.
Again, I'm sorry for the recent loss of your father as well as all the tragic losses of close family members over the years. God Speed!

Here's to a Great Grandfather

Marcia Lamb

January 25, 2009

For my Father, my inspiration, my friend, the irreplaceable figure in my life. You gave me all the skills and knowledge to make it on my own and yet you were always there to pick me up when I fell. When people ask me how did I ever learn to fix "that", I only had to say I learned from my Dad, he taught me eveything I know. He made the best pancakes in the world on Sunday mornings, and was always there to help you create the best built project for school. You gave us the best and we will miss you.
Give everyone our love.... Your loving daughter and junior.......
