Gainesville - Michael D. Wimberly died September 9, 2014 at Shands UF.
He's survived by his fiancee, Alice Ophelia Williams; children, Jalen, Shyree and Malike Wimberly; step-children, Latasha, Lataya and Robert Powell; 9 grandchildren; parents, Maureen Thorpe and Jessie J. Wimberly; siblings, Melody, Sandra, Doug, Tonya, Terrence, Jessica Wimberly, Tyshe and Andrick Thorpe and other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 22500 SE 71st Ave., Hawthorne, FL, Rev. Eugene Herring Sr., Pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, High Springs, FL. Viewing on Friday at PINKNEY-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 727 NW 2ND STREET,GAINESVILLE, FL, 2-7 p.m. and Saturday at New Hope UMC 9:30-10 a.m. No viewing after eulogy.

To the family, Michael was a kind, warm hearted soul who would always lend a helping hand. How blessed I feel to have had the opportunity to have met Michael and gotten to know him. He was a ray of sunshine and always had a kind word for my wards. Rest in Peace Michael.

My prayers is in the family best wishes. Mike was a part of everyone life throughout his years. As a little girl I remember he was very funny he made our family laugh all the time with his sense of humor. Just knowing him was enough to have love in our hearts for him. RIP Mike Wimberly there is so much love for you around Gainesville and beyond God has you now so you can rest.
