Moses Singleton Obituary

Brother Moses Singleton

A strong pillar and mentor of the Monteocha Community near Gainesville, Florida, Brother Moses Singleton, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2011. He was surrounded by family at his bedside. His parents, the late David and Estella Nelson Singleton, had instilled "family leadership qualities" in him at an early age.

He was a native of Alachua County, born on March 18, 1934 and reared in the Monteocha Community along with his 12 Brothers and Sisters. Seven Siblings preceded him in death: two in infancy, Beatrice Singleton Taylor, Louis, Willie, Abraham and John B. Singleton. He is survived by his remaining Siblings: Brother Carl (Betty), Deacon James "Jackie" (Missionary Rosa Lee), Glade McAlister, and Janie S. Johnson (all of Gainesville, FL) and Ella Hutchinson (Ollie) of Jacksonville, Florida. Brother Moses is also survived by one Aunt: Louise Casey of Boynton Beach, FL; Brothers-In-Law and Sisters-in-Law: Minnie Singleton, Alice M. Singleton, Inez H. Williams, Ceanus H. Brazil (Isaiah), Melvina H. Banks, Mary H. Lee, Ernest Howell, Joyce H. Roebuck (Herman), and Michael Howell.

Fifty-seven years ago, on July 17, 1954, he married the former Geraldine Howell. They have six Children: Rev. Gregory Singleton (Mary) of Greenville, South Carolina, Pastor Vernon D. Singleton (Pastor Mitzi) of Lake City, Florida, Minister Oriska Singleton, Brother Gerald "Al" Singleton (Minister Sherrie), Derrick "D.J." Singleton, and Juanita "Shawn" Lewis (all of Gainesville, Florida). His legacy continues with 20 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, many Nieces, Nephews and other Sons and Daughters birthed in their hearts.

Brother Moses made it clear that he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a man of prayer and insight, a devoted Husband, wonderful Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, he sowed wisdom and encouragement into many people's lives.

The Home Going Celebration will be held 11:00am on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Jerusalem Church of God by Faith (Monteocha Community/Gainesville, FL) where Elder D.E. Gainey is Pastor and Eulogist, with his Pastor, Rev. George Trotman of Atlas A.M.E. Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the newly established Atlas Family Memorial Garden (Monteocha Community). Brother Singleton will be viewed at the Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00pm, and, also on Friday at Atlas A.M.E. Church (Monteocha Community) where the Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Brother Singleton will be viewed at the Church on Saturday 30 minutes prior to the Services, and with the Processional. The Procession will form at the Singleton Family Homestead, 1530 N.E. 192nd Avenue, Gainesville, FL at 10:15am.

To the Singleton family, I just happened to come across the obituary for your husband and father. I was sorry to hear of his passing. I worked with your mother many years ago and remember meeting the Singleton clan several times. A genuine family to your very heart and soul. I remember your father as a kind and gentle man. He will live on through each of you and be in your hearts forever.

God smiled on me when I becam acquaingted with the Singleston Family in 1991. Rev. Geraldine Singleston was my pastor and Bro. Moses was always by her side. What a kind and gentle spirit he was, easy to talk to, always greeting you with a smile and Rev. Singleston and Bro. Moses lending a helping hand in any capacity they could. I love this family and I'm glad for the years I God blessed me with to know Bro.Moses. I have no doubt that he made it in and from the years of knowing what a great "Holy" family this is, there is sadness but comfort knowing he is with God.
God Bless all of you.

Gerri, I regret that I am unable to attend any of the services with you when you were so visibly present when I was at the same place you are now. Even so, know that I love you and grieve with you. At a subsequent time I will in some way make up for my absence now. Then too, know that everything God does is perfect. You were so blessed to have a loving companion for a long, long time. God is always GOOD!
