COX, PAUL SAMUEL, 79

Gainesville - Paul Samuel Cox, age 79 of Gainesville, FL died peacefully, surrounded by loving family members Saturday evening, Feb. 16, 2013 in Shands Hospital. He was born in Fairbanks, FL, the son of Joseph Samuel and Maggie Davis Cox and was raised by his "Grandpa & Grandma Davis" in Orange Heights. Paul was a Baptist.

He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 16 and fought in the Korean Conflict. After his 3 year tour in the Army he returned home, then not long after joined the U.S. Navy. This turned out to be his chosen career. He retired from the Navy in 1977 after a combined military career of 28 years. Paul is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Dot Sorrells Cox and his younger sister Linda Cox Lowrance and her husband Steve of Elizabethton, TN, a niece Stephanie and her husband Bobby York of Kingsport, TN, his aunt, Frances Davis Townsend of Starke, FL and his God-daughter Amber Wimply Baucom. He is also survived by two very special first cousins who were always more like his brothers. Roy Davis and his wife Laverne and daughter, Kay Mainor, who have been personal caretakers of Paul and Dot every moment of every day, throughout the last few months. Secondly George Davis and his wife Jullie. He also has many more cousins and friends. He will be missed by so many.

Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday February 28, 2013 at the Antioch Cemetery in LaCrosse, FL.
