RITA ZIMMERMANN Obituary

ZIMMERMANN, RITA ADAIR

Rita Adair Zimmermann, age 89 of Gainesville, FL passed to the next life on Monday April 19, 2010 at the E T York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Florida. Widow of Elwood Zimmermann, she was born January 22, 1921 in Ashburn, Georgia. She was predeceased by her parents Robert Sidney Adair, Sr., and Sara Johnson Adair, and her brother Robert S. Adair Jr., also Charles H. Hudson and John H. Wolf, Jr. Rita moved to Dublin, Georgia as a young child, grew up in Dublin, and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. In 1948 she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and resided there until moving to Gainesville, Florida, in 2000. While residing in Jacksonville, she was an officer in the firm of J. H. Wolf, Jr, Contractors, for over twenty years. During her years in Jacksonville, she was a member of St. Mary's and All Saints Episcopal Church. She was active in volunteerism in the Episcopal Church of the Diocese of Florida, serving as President of Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese, and a member of various Departments of Christian outreach as well as a Member of the Executive Board of Provincial Synod. After seventeen years of volunteer service to the Church, she was appointed Secretary to the Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Hamilton West. Upon retirement in 1975 she received the Distinguished Service Award of the Diocese of Florida. Following retirement, she devoted her life by showing her loving concern for family, friends, the ill and needy. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Hudson and Barbara B. Hudson, Grandchildren Robert C. Hudson, Jr, and Stephanie H. Castro (Guzman), nieces Ellen Hankinson (John) of Winterville, Georgia, Rita Catherine Duvall (Mike) of Valdosta, Georgia, great grandchildren Elise Hudson, Wesley Hudson, Chloe Castro and Hudson Castro, and, two great nephews Matthew Hankinson (Sandy) and Jeff Hankinson (Brandy). Cryptside Services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida at 11:00 AM, on Thursday April 22, 2010. Entombment will be in the Garden Mausoleum. Officiating will be The Rev. Gerald Alexander of All Saints Episcopal Church. A Memorial Service will be held in the near future at The North Florida Retirement Village in Gainesville, where she lived for the past ten years. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Haven Hospice 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606. You were my adopted Grandmother Rita, you took me under your wing 6 years ago. You were one of my best friends. I miss you so very much. You were such and amazing woman and your kindness and wonderfull spirit radiated off you ligh rays of sunshine. I love you and will NEVER forget you. Bob & Barbara- you both have been wonderful friend and my prayers are with you both and the rest of the family.
