Steve and I were housemates at UF. Steve was a great guy; friendly, funny, quick witted and smart. So sorry to hear of his passing. Taken way too soon.

I'm sorry this is so late, but I just read about Steve's passing in the Mercer Alumni magazine. Even though I was in a different fraternity (SAE), I always considered Stevie to be one of my best friends. The last time I saw him was at our classes 10 year reunion in 1982. My wife remembered him, as I spent most of the evening talking with him. He was truly one of the best people I've ever known.

I met Dr. New around 1977 at the downstairs bar in The Great Southern Music Hall. I saw him often on the same seat while the same singer always sang Desporado. We introduced ourselves and would say hello. Then on a Sunday I had my front canine broken with a hammer. I only knew one dentist. Dr. New. He got me patched up for the weekend and the following week he told me I needed a crown. I couldn't afford a crown and asked him if I could clean his house to pay for it. He said yes. So every week I cleaned his house. When I moved back in 2012 I was happy to make him my dentist. He was a funny nice guy with a big heart. My condolences to his family.

We are very sad to learn the passing of Dr. New, he was our family dentist after we moved to Gainesville in 1977. He took great care of all of us. Since we were around the same age it felt more like going to a friends place.
Swapped many stories through out the years.
It is with a heavy heart to have to say good bye to such a great man.
To Patti and his whole family we offer our deepest condolences. May he find peace in the after life

I moved to Gainesville in 1976, the same year Dr. New graduated from U of FL dental school. I started asking around for a good dentist and his name kept coming up in conversations. I knew I had the right dentist for me and my children the minute I met him. He was so full of himself, so proud of himself that it made you so comfortable with his hands in our mouth. He did some beautiful work for all of us in the 40 years we used him as a dentist. Always lively and joking but when it came to teeth, he was very serious. We enjoyed his shananigans for over 40 years. You are and always will be the best of everything. Thank you for taking care of us!! We will miss you more than you will ever know, Dr. New!!!!

Doctor New was our family dentist forever. My mom would drive from Kissimmee to see him. I always knew that whatever was wrong with my teeth, he could fix and I never left his office without a smile. Dr New and Anne kept me laughing for the whole time I was in the chair. My sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed!

I spent some 30 years cheering on the Gators with Steve, as my seats were adjacent to his. I had many good times with Steve, as his and Patti's house was always open to me when I came to town. I hadn't seen Steve in several years, having given up my Gator season tickets while living in Salt Lake City. I will miss you my brother...My life is richer for having known you. My sincere condolences to Patti and family during this difficult time.

Steve was the greatest. Always so much fun to be around. I remember the Tuesday night poker games, and going to Atlanta with Steve, Gary(Evans) and myself, and how those two guys kept me in stitches laughing the whole trip. Steve was one of a kind, and I was proud to be a long time friend. God bless you Steve. Gwen and I send our sincere condolences to you Patty, and the family.

Dr. New took care of my family for over 30 years. I never minded going to the dentist because of his and his staff’s great bedside manner. Towards the end he talked a lot about his family and showed me pictures. I am saddened by his passing and send my condolences to his family.

Dr. New was so special as a dentist and person. Who ever enjoyed to going dentist, I did! Because I always left smiling and happy listening to Dr. News' stories or jokes. His dental was excellent too. He will surely missed. Prayers for the family.

Dr New was a kind gentle fast talking guy. I always enjoyed having him as my boss back in the 80’s. One of my favorite memories was our staff giving him a powder blue Polyester leisure suit for his birthday. (It was hideous)! Well, he thanked us, held it up and we could hardly control our laughter as we asked him to try it on. (As if we were so proud of it). Anyway, we took a nice picture of him holding it up with his mouth hanging open. Lol. I showed him the picture years later at a dental appt and he asked to keep the picture. It should be in his office. Enjoy!
So very sorry for your loss. ...
