"SUNNY", 48
Gainesville - Sunita "Sunny" Ramayya, 48, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, August 26, 2013.
Sunny was born on June 27, 1965 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and soon after moved with her family to Gainesville. She graduated from Buchholz High School, Class of 1983, and from The University of Florida, Class of 1986, with a Bachelors degree in Journalism. After graduation, Sunny worked as a writer for the Florida Times-Union and for the Tampa Tribune. She then began working as a teacher's aide, working for many years at Kimball Wiles Elementary. She attended the Campus Church of Christ. Sunny was preceded in death by her father, Dr. D.P. Ramayya and her brother-in-law, Thomas Piziak.
She is survived by her mother, Sarla Ramayya of Gainesville; brother, Harsha Ramayya of Jacksonville; sister, Dee Piziak of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin; nieces and nephews, Brent and Margaret Ramayya of Jacksonville, Adriana Piziak, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Elizabeth Piziak, of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 5:00 P.M., in the Chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville.

I enjoyed knowing Sunny in journalism school at UF, and she introduced me to her friends, and I became close with them too. She worked at the "Electronic Text Center" with me and was very adept at the new world of interactive media as it existed in 1985.

Dear Harsha and Family: You may have heard of me. I did meet Sunny's mom and dad in Gainesville one New Year's Eve. I was a friend of Sunny's for a brief time in the 1980s. Our relationship lingered into the 90s, me visiting her in Tampa once and Tallahassee. I always think fondly of Sunny, and wish I had been a better friend to her. She was such a sweet woman, and I really loved her, and it hurt when a mutual friend (Mike Barile) told me she had passed. Had I been able to I would have attended services. She was a special, sweet, lovely woman. I'll take her memory with me always.

So very sad. Sunny and I were friends at BHS, and, due to my late arrival, we never had the chance to reminisce at our recent reunion. She had already left once I got there. A lost encounter I shall always remember. Sunny was very special, and she lived up to her name by being a bright light in many people's lives.

Harsha, Deepti and Mrs. Ramayya, I am so sorry for your loss. Sunita was always smiling. She was always so sweet and kind to me and I have thought of her often since leaving Gainesville. My deep condolences to her family. I remember her in Latin class, her brother Harsha, and her mother Mrs Ramayya who taught 7th grade geography at Ft Clarke Middle. Sunita was always very cheerful and upbeat.

I recently had the opportunity to see pictures of the Class of 83 Reunion which I unfortunately missed. The first person I recognized was Sunny! The years never put a damper on that million dollar smile and it instantly took me back in time. We have lost one of the best of our high school era but Sunny will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry for the loss of Sunita. I recently had wonderful conversations with her at the BHS reunion at CYM. It was the first time I had seen her since high school. We picked up like we had not been separated by the years. I am so sorry for the loss. My condolences to the family.
