A. D. Hawks Obituary

The Rev. A. D. Hawks Sr., age 78, of Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Scotty Randolph will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 18, 2010 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Hawks was born July 21, 1931, in Commerce, Ga., to the late Willis Hawks and Beulah Little Hawks.

He served in the U.S. Army (Korean War veteran), served in the community on multiple committees for the Gainesville City Schools Board of Education and retired from the Hall County school system.

The Rev. Hawks was a pastor over six churches, and founded four out of the six churches in the Northeast Georgia and South Carolina area. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and his daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Gilbert Wilcox.

The Rev. Hawks is survived by his wife, Juanita Hawks of Gainesville; his daughters, Phyllis Brewer, Vinita Michelle Hawks-Owens, Patricia (Nick) Kidd, Brenda (Jimmy) Owens and Mary (Thomas) Danielly; his sons, Dennis (Brenda) Hawks and Adell Hawks Jr.; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Gaynell Wells and Mary Louise Bonds.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, GA, 30504, is in charge of arrangements.
