Dr. Stephen James Ragone, 63, of Gainesville passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at his residence following a diagnosis of terminal cancer.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 18, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Marshall Dale will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 18, 2018, from noon until 3:30 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Dr. Ragone was born April 26, 1955, in New York City, N.Y., to the late Michael Vincent Ragone Sr. and Marion Sandritti Ragone. He owned and operated Ragone Family Denistry in Gainesville for 37 years and was of the Catholic Faith. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Ragone.

Dr. Ragone is survived by his daughters, Damaris Leigh Ragone and Daphne Ragone, both of Gainesville; his grandson, Brejay Bolling of Gainesville; his sister-in-law, Patsy Ragone of Gainesville; and his nephews, Dylan and Brandon Ragone, both of Gainesville. His family would also like to acknowledge his loyal staff, to which he considered family.

I was told by my mother, Shirley Goodstein, that she used to sit out in the sitting area at the Linden Hill coop apartments in the 1950s with Mrs. Ramone. She sat with Stephen is his baby carriage, and my Mom sat with me. This was before Parsons Boulevard was completed and the Food Fair (later Pantry Pride) shopping center was built in 1963. Stephen and I grew up together. We attended PS 79 (later PS 21), Bleecker JHS 185, Flushing High School, and Queens College. Stephen Ragone was brilliant. The fact he never went on to medical school was tragic.

Marion Sandritti Ragone, Stephen and Michael's mother, grew up in the Bronx with our mother, Christine Djerak. When Mario married Mike Ragone, we always called them "aunt" and "uncle" because they were family. Stephen and Michael were always the smartest in their classes and I admired their strong bond, especially after Aunt Marion passed from cancer. Our family is heartbroken that Stephen and his brother died so young of such debilitating diseases. I met Stephen's daughter Demaris when she was just a little girl; 2 years old I think. What a beautiful, precious child. It was the last time I saw Michael and Stephen. Should Patsy Ragone ever read this, tell her we have photographs with Marion and Michael when he was a new born. Our hearts and tears go out to eh extended Ragone family. We share your grief. Bless you, friends.

I am very sad to hear of the passing of one of the best dentist and friend I could have known. He was so good to me and never scolded me about not doing enough of this or that. He was always encouraging and a delight to see when others hated the dentist visit. I truly will miss him and my heart breaks tonight one night shy of knowing about this and I missed the chance to say good bye. RIP Dr. Ragone.

Dr. Ragone was my dentist for 35 years. I first saw him when I was nine. I heard about his passing on Saturday and I still can not believe it. He was a great dentist and will be missed.

Steve has been my dentist for well over 30 years. i can't say enough about his tremendous care and conscientious staff. He was the fairest, friendliest and most courteous and caring doctor I have ever had.. To say he will be greatly missed is an understatement of the greatest amount. He did his very best to take care of his patients as well as later on, those of his brother Mike who shared the practice with him. May God comfort his girls and his family. I knew him long before he had a family of his own and always remembered and asked about mine by name as well as my best friend who was also a patient of his. May God hold him in the palm of his hand and I will see him again when the time is right.
