Willard Bates Obituary
Tim was born April 15, 1947, in Gaston County, son of Reba Arnea Denton Bates of Cherryville and the late Willard Tyce Bates.
He was a graduate of Cherryville High School and a veteran of the US Army, Vietnam Era, retired tax appraiser for Gaston County, CEO of NSSST and active in many community activities.
Survivors include his son, Neman T Bates and wife, Anna Marie of Cherryville; a grandson, Zen Trevor Bates of Cherryville, and a brother, Randy J. Bates and wife Kathy of West Jefferson.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Gastonia with the Rev. Richard Brown officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service in the church.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Belmont Abby for a private meditation after the celebration of life.
Memorials may be made to The Christian Ministries of Lincoln County, 207 South Popular Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

I know our old friend Tim will be missed so very much by his family and his many many friends...But I believe that his vibrant and unique personality will live on as we remember him and share our memories with each other. Tim was a good, loyal, caring man who thoroughly enjoyed his life!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in this very hard time. He always was a unique indiviual at work, and always had his own thoughts in and around the assessor's office. Tim always kept us on our toe's, he will be missed. Although he just retired 4 months ago this place just hasnt been the same with out TIM around. May he "rest in peace".
