Larry Blackburn Obituary
Larry was born on November 19, 1941 in Cleveland County, NC a son of the late Jonah Hall Blackburn and Wilma Propst Blackburn. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School, Carson-Newman University in Tennessee and UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. Larry taught school in Virginia for three years. He was a retired pharmacist having worked for Cornwell Drug in Lincolnton, Revco and CVS in Kings Mountain and Cherryville. Larry was a member of South Gastonia Church of God. He also served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim and Bruce Blackburn.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Joan Huffman Blackburn of the home; two nephews, Douglas B. Blackburn, Jr. of Cherryville, Billy Blackburn of Fort Mill and a niece, Holly Thompson of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to all of those who helped with Larry's care.
The family will receive friends from 1:45PM to 2:45PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Adrian Franklin, Bobby Gilley and Jerry Lail officiating.
Burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to South Gastonia Church of God, 310 Carolina Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052.

Sorry for you loss. Larry and Bruce are remembered along with their parents. Our families mingled from time to time. We went together on a vacation to Florida. I'm not sure if Larry went. He was the older brother of Bruce. This was in the mid 50's
It was a great trip for a kid and his friend. Bruce came back with an alligator and a monkey...
Those were great days.
Bruce and I would box each other in my parents basement.
Many good memories of Larry and his family.
