Lisa LaFlamme Obituary

LOUISBURG, NC – Lisa LaFlamme, 52, of Louisburg, passed away recently.

Growing up in Northampton, Massachusetts, Lisa was one of the first girls to be on the boys' high school soccer team - a warrior for equality from a young age. Lisa loved traveling, hiking, yoga, flea markets and golfing. She also had a love for the arts - painting, creating collages, and taking photographs of the places she traveled to. She was creative even in business - she found value in items that others overlooked and gave them new purpose.

She had her master's degree and used her education to help others.

Lisa was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Joyce LaFlamme.

Lisa is survived by two brothers Chris (Carolyn) LaFlamme and Jeff (Terry) LaFlamme, along with a nephew Corey (Christin) LaFlamme and a niece Christyn (Joe) Fagan.

May she forever Rest In Peace.

I have waited to write this, and it's still hard to find the right words. With Lisa's passing, the world has lost a person of uncommon kindness and gentleness.

Our mutual love of sports brought us together in 7th grade at Hawley Jr. High, but it didn't take long for us to form a beautiful friendship.

Together, we were celebrators of silliness. We laughed our way through uncertainty, absurdity. and every trial and tribulation occurring on the bumpy road to adulthood.

Lisa was always supportive and giving. I still have some of the hilarious notes she passed to me in the hallways of school. I can picture a little doodle she made for me with the caption, "Spaz scores a goal!" I, aka "Spaz", lacked Lisa's speed and finishing ability on the soccer field, so she knew it was special for me. That was Lisa--so genuine and encouraging.

My first live concert was The Who from the front row, and all because my buddy Lisa was sitting in a car outside of Platypus Records when the radio announced the tickets were on sale. That turned out to be one of the many adventures we experienced together. I'll never forget our two weeks hitchhiking through Europe, dodging lightning and creepy guys, getting lost and finding magic, making friends and testing limits. Somewhere, I have a blurry picture of you drenched from the pouring rain, ready to collapse from the weight of your pack and the miles that we walked, but still laughing.

I'd like to think Lisa's love for art began with our attempts to create the perfect "spin art" at Hampton Beach, but I know better. Lisa was an artist who loved nature, but she could see and capture the beauty in the mundane as well.

What I wouldn't give to watch another movie with you at the Calvin, sing along with Arlo Guthrie or Greg Brown at the Iron House, burn the roofs of our mouths on the Cheese from Harvard Pizza, kick the soccer ball around at Smith College, watch the Celtics beat the Lakers at T.J.'s, spend our hard earned money at Main Street Records, stay up all night sharing dreams and fears...

As much as I loved you, my family did too. You will always be in our hearts.

I send my love and thoughts to Chris and Carolyn, Jeff and Terri, and Corey and Christyn.

Dear Chris, Carolyn, Jeff and Terry,
I was heartbroken to hear of Lisa's death. My thoughts have been with your family these few days and I can only offer comfort in my many wonderful memories of spending time with Lisa. We had much fun riding our bikes everywhere, often to get a slushy and a brain freeze. We loved playing endless games of horse in your driveway and playing soccer. Your folks were brave enough to take me along on vacation to Eastham where we stayed at the Cranberry Cottages. I have fond memories of beach, sunburns and the pizza barn. I even remember Jeff playing the Doobie Brothers for us way back when and telling us this was important.
She will always be the beautiful blond Leafer to me with an artist eye and a bit of a sarcastic sense of humor.
She will be missed.

I am so sorry to read of Lisa's passing. I only knew her as a child but she always impressed me with her enthusiasm for everything. She was a youngster full of life. It sounds as if she never lost that zest for living. My deepest sympathy to her family. The Grimm family
