KIMBERLY FAIRBANK
Cimarron - Kimberly Jo Fairbank, 65, passed away on May 12, 2025 at her home in Cimarron, Kansas surrounded by love and peace. She was born on March 28, 1960 in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Joe D. and Donna (Smith) Butcher.
Kim was raised in Cimarron, Kansas and graduated from Cimarron High School in 1978. She continued her education at Kansas State University and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. She then received her Certified Public Accountant permit. On May 30, 1981, Kim married her high school sweetheart, Rocky Allyn Fairbank, in Cimarron.
Kim began her career as a CPA with Birney & Co. in Garden City, Kansas from 1981 to 1984, before returning to Cimarron to work alongside her father at First National Bank in Cimarron. For 26 years she served as CPA and Financial Officer, later becoming CEO in 2010, a position she held until stepping down in 2018 due to health concerns. Kim served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank in Cimarron for many years and as Chairman of the Board from 2010 until her death. She was also actively serving as a Director of Centera Bank in Sublette and was a long-standing member of various committees since 2011. She also previously served as a Director of Data Center Inc. in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Kim was a resident of Cimarron most of her life. She was an active member of the Cimarron Methodist Church, serving faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, as well as other various committees. Kim was an avid advocate and supporter for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In 2017, Kim was recognized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as an "Honor Survivor" at their annual "Light The Night" Ceremony. She served as a board member of Hospice of the Prairie, Inc and President of the "FRIENDS" Program, an after-school child care through Shepherd of the Plains Foundation, and was Club Leader for the Cimarron Rustlers 4-H Club for ten years. She was a life member of the Kansas Society of CPA's and a member of PEO Chapter CL.
She was a woman of deep and unwavering faith, whose life was a testament to the values she held dear. Her love for God was evident in the way she livedkind, generous, and full of grace. She found great joy in playing the piano, often filling her home with music. Whether planting flowers in the garden or sitting peacefully by the lake, she cherished the beauty of God's creation. But more than anything, she was most proud of her family. She found immeasurable joy in watching her children succeed and treasured every moment spent with her granddaughters, who were the light of her life.
Kimberly is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, Rocky of Cimarron; three children, Trenton Fairbank and wife Sara, Brooke Fairbank, and Stewart Fairbank, all of Cimarron; and her beloved granddaughters, Sadie, Taylie, and Adley Fairbank. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Christina Faye Fairbank of Cimarron; her sister, Dea Ann Kreisman of Parker, Colorado; brothers, Grant Butcher and wife Margaret of Springdale, Arkansas and Robert Butcher and wife Angela of DeSoto, Kansas; uncle, Lynn Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; aunt, Valda Haug and husband Dale of Salina, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Kim Ray (Therese) Fairbank, Derek Fairbank, Jim (Dana) Fairbank, Britt Fairbank; sister-in-law, Terrilyn Fairbank; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as many dear friends.
Kimberly is preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Elon "Chet" Fairbank; grandparents, Ruel and Willa Butcher and Hubert and Mildred Smith; and aunts, Sue Smith and Phyllis Monical.
Kim's legacy is one of devotionto her faith, her family, her profession, and her community. Her strength, grace, and love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Funeral service will be held at Cimarron Methodist Church on Saturday May 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mike Keating and Pastor Kevin Reed presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery in Cimarron. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 16, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
