John Roberts Obituary

John Standish Roberts
February 19, 1936 - May 17, 2015
John was the son of Walton Barwick Roberts and Eleanor Foley Roberts. He was a severe asthmatic during his childhood and youth. His mother brought him to the Colorado mountains every summer to restore his health for the next school year. Because of this, his goal was to live his life in Colorado.
John graduated from high school in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1953. In 1957, he graduated from Colorado University with a Business Administration degree. His first job was selling advertising for the Englewood, Colorado, newspaper. In 1960 he married Lois Ann Hoisington in Palisade, Colorado, and started his employment at Ralph Schomp Oldsmobile in Englewood. John was employed there until June 1986, when he resigned. In 1987 he opened his own General Motors dealership in Gunnison, Colorado, where he worked until his retirement in December 2008.
John was known for his deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a disciple and encourager of men and supported local community groups and events wherever he lived.
John is survived by his wife, Lois; three children, Sarah (Jimmie), David (Sheri), and Ruth (Scott); seven grandchildren, Derrick, Taylor, Paris, Jessie, Zachary, Sydney, and Tanner; four great-grandchildren, Aksel, Emry, Roczen, and Summer; sister-in-law, Peggy Cherry; brother-in-law, Jim (Karen) Hoisington; and a niece and nephew, their spouses and children.
The family held private memorial services. Memorial gifts may be sent to Cadence International, P.O. Box 1268, Englewood, CO 80150.

I have so many good memories of Mr. Roberts. He spent time with me, taught me, admonished me and loved me. I frequently remember the influence he had on my life and what he taught me and pass it on to those I now am responsible for. Mr. Roberts played basketball with me, took me to my first DU Pioneer hockey game. He gave me my first job at Ralph Schomp Oldsmobile. He encouraged me throughout the years I was in school. He loved Jesus and showed it in every facet of his life. I loved this man and no one, other than my father, has had a greater impact on my life. He will be missed but only temporarily as we look forward to heaven and the great renewal of friendships that will last forever. No more good byes there.
