When Bill and I first moved to Gunnison back in 1975, we were newly weds with only a kitty in tow looking for a place to live. We met with Bob about renting an apartment in his complex on Gothic. But...we had a kitty, so he said no. We looked and looked for another apartment but with no luck. Oh a whim, we decided to check back with Bob and plead our case. Our Dandy was a sweet kitty and we loved her. We would be really careful...and I even cried. What a soft-hearted guy. He said, "Ok, if you give me a check for a deposit, which I will never cash, and DO NOT tell my wife, I'll let you have your kitty here. He and Sheri even helped us move in. We had a wonderful home there for four years until we bought our first house, and Bob was our first wonderful welcome to Gunnison. We will miss his laugh!

I often 'smell' dad. As I pass a cut piece of sheet rock or a newly cut piece of wood I have that memory that stays with me. I spent lots of times with dad on the Gunnison River at the Esty's place snagging salmon. A brutal act to fish that were soon to die. One memory I want to share is that I spent many many days with dad at job sites. I would go for tools left in the truck and take them to dad and his workers. Dad called me his gofer and chief helper. I met many of dad's friends and employers. We had coffee breaks with mom's homemade goodies and frosted raisin cookies. Bud Roberts and Red (Steve Shafer) were right there with us or I was with them. At one time, Mom and Dad discussed that it was probably time for me to spend more time with mom and learn other skills too. I cried and cried. I wanted so to be with dad and had not wanted to stay and help mom. I love both of my parents and am so blessed by them both. I think this is one reason for my love of the outdoors and doing things. Mom shared so many of the loves of dad. Meeting people, encouraging people, doing things for others.

My sincerest sympathies to Cindy, Jo Ellen, Kathy and Sheri and all your extended families. Your Dad was one of the true gentle giants in the Gunnison community for so many years and he touched many of us while we were growing up with his kindness, wit, and generosity. He will be missed by many. He was always around, supporting what we were doing as kids. My thoughts are with you today.

We have some great memories of our "Uncle Bob" as we always called him. One in particular comes to mind. We rented a basement apartment and had a garden level window that we always BBQ'd out of. Someone was alway calling Bob and telling him they thought the apartment building was on fire, but he'd always say "no it's just Ed & Ginny BBQ'ing." Bob helped us tremendously when we were first married and it was greatly appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God bless, Ed & Ginny Carr.

I'm sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences in your time of grief. I'm one of the Prock kids that went to the old Baptist Church in Hotchkiss. We knew the Carr family, Eleanor, Robert, Donald and Beth. Robert was in my high school graduating class. Athletic and enjoyable. He will be missed. Blessings, Wanda Prock Hunter

We will all miss dads little big brother ( which dad and Uncle Bob always joked about). I have so many good memories of the time we spent with Aunt Betty and Uncle Bob. We miss them both. All our love and prayers go out to all their girls.

I have many great memories of Bob. One of the best ones was when he and Betty visited Gabe and me at our home in Mobile. They joined us on our boat for a 40 mile overnight sailing trip. I was worried that we wouldn't have a bunk on the boat large enough to accommodate Big Bob so we arranged for him to get a ride back home that night if he wanted. He wouldn't hear of that and he was the happiest "duck on the pond" that night and on the long sail home the next day! That was one of the most memorable times for us and know it was for Bob as well. Fair winds, my friend!

We'll always remember Bob as a wonderful landlord. He was a great friend, grew some amazing tomatoes, and Jim enjoyed teaching him to fly. We last saw him at a Gunnison airshow and received a memorable Bob Carr bearhug. Our prayers to the family. No one will fill his shoes.

It was always special to say "I'm Bob Carr's daughter." That meant something to a lot of folks. Here's to you, your giant spirit, and the impact you had on my life and the lives of many. Love you and miss you.
