Kenneth "Ken" Royal Bowyer Sr. passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Bright Leaf Place in Danville, Va. He was born on July 22, 1942, in Lynchburg, Va., to the late Royal and Agnes Bowyer. He attended Randolph-Macon College where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He went on to work as a chemist at International Paper and Masonite. Ken lost his beloved wife, Evelyn Garrett Bowyer, on December 6, 1999, after 34 years of marriage. Together they raised two wonderful children, Ken Bowyer Jr. and Brooke Bowyer Eanes. He was a loving grandfather to Brooke's children, Bryan and Devin. He enjoyed traveling, watching UVa sports, auto racing, listening to country music and playing duplicate bridge. He attended West Main Baptist Church and was a longstanding member of the Danville Optimists Club. Ken's longtime companion, Pattie Motley of Chatham, Va., was a supportive and loving part of his world with whom he shared many special times including several cherished trips to Alaska. LouAnn Litten, Ken's aide for the past three years, cared for him with amazing attention, love and kindness. There will be a memorial service at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Bowyer family.
