Sharon Leonard Obituary

Sharon (Troeckler) Leonard, age 55, passed away on June 27, 2017 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on February 5, 1962 to the late Frank J. Troeckler and Marilyn Ann (Kunnemann) Troeckler. Sharon led a joy filled and vivacious life of love that ended after a fierce and inspirational seven-year battle with cancer.
Sharon was a kind person with a giant heart that comforted and lifted up many people. She never met a stranger. She loved, inspired and embraced everyone. She loved the beautiful country home she created with her husband Dan and shared with her 3 dogs. She made sure "the farm" was always warm, inviting and brimming with holiday and seasonal cheer. Sharon was a leader of conversation and a bringer-together of friends and family. She put people at ease and infused a room with energy.
Born and raised in Edwardsville, she had a special place in her heart for her home town and the high school class of '80. She was an avid cyclist and spent many hours riding the bike trails and country roads around her home. However, she devoted the largest amount of her time to friends and family. Her six year old granddaughter said, "She is good, joyful, fun and so nice". One could not find a more dedicated, loving, and supportive mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend and grandmother. Sharon's spirit burned bright and lit up everything and everyone around her. She will continue to shine in all of us.
She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Dan W. Leonard; her children Kasey (Jeff) Sharp, Jason (Holly) Leonard, Ben (Deann) Leonard, and Megan (Chris) Leonard-Holland; grandchildren, Autumn, Evelyn, Cal, and Liam; siblings, Judy (John) Beck, Cindy (Kevin) Wood, Frank (Kathy) Troeckler, and David (Robin) Troeckler; step-siblings Karren Esicar, Mark Witte and Dwaine (Christy) Witte; brothers-in-law Scott (Olga) Leonard and Jim (Susan) Leonard; mother-in-law Doris Leonard; nieces and nephews, Sarah (Jeff) Ellis, Chelsey (Ashkan Afshari) Quick, Ethan Wood, Jacob and Allie Troeckler, Sara (Lori) Leonard, and Kim and Josh Leonard; great nephews Chapman, Landon, Matthew and Lucas; former mother-in-law and dear friend Corinne Mewes and many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her step-mother Wanetah Troeckler.
All of those she loved, supported and inspired are invited to join us in celebrating her life through visitation at Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Glen Carbon on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 4:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M.
A private memorial service and inurnment at Calvary Cemetery in Glen Carbon will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Esic Baptist Church and Found a Hound Rescue (FAHR) of Godfrey, IL. Additional condolences may also be sent to the family at www.herrfuneral.com.
Sharon wishes to be remembered for her fun, loving, outgoing and joyful spirit. In her memory, please dance, sing, call a friend, crank up the radio and roll down the windows, laugh until your stomach hurts, tickle your grandchildren or infuse others with whatever form of contagious, happy energy you choose. Live your life, live it well and live it fully, just as she did.

Judy and family:

I was so sorry to hear about Sharon. Sharon was a very nice person. My Senior year of high school, she was in my Current International Issues Classes, participated in Model United Nations at McKendree University in November 1978. Also, she was in Mixed Chorus with me, my Junior Year. I remember when Sharon modeled in the Style Show that Auerbach's presented in August 1980. She was a great person to be with. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.
