Gene Bruno Obituary

SAN ANGELO Gene T. Bruno, 86, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in San Angelo. Friends and family will be received from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating. Gene was born May 5, 1926, in Miles, Texas, to Charlie Faigl and Millie Sklenarik Bruno. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Betty Piel. They were married on Oct. 4, 1947, and shared almost 62 wonderful years of marriage before she preceded him in death in August 2008. Gene worked in numerous states while in the oil industry. After leaving that line of work, he and his wife, Betty, moved to San Angelo where he worked as a service technician repairing office equipment until his retirement. Gene was a member of Wall Brethren Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; his son, Tommy Gene Bruno; one sister, Ann Atkins; and two brothers, Charlie Bruno and Eddie Bruno. He is survived by four nieces, Charlotte Cyphers, Sandra Pape and husband Raymond, Wanda Coombs and husband Danny and Cody Atkins, all of San Angelo; three nephews, Jerry Bruno of San Angelo, Gregory Bruno and wife Renee of Fort Stockton and Dennis Bruno of Missouri; two cousins, Georgia Piel of San Angelo and Robert Sklenarik and wife Jeannie of Miles, Texas. Gene would want to extend a special thanks to the Garlen E. Clark family of Odessa for their many years of friendship. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
