LaDonna Schillinger Obituary

SAN ANGELO LaDonna Lee Schillinger went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the age of 65. Donna was known to all as being a true Christian. Her main passion was her family and friends. She had a warm soul and a gentle spirit, always putting others first. She valiantly fought the crippling effects of Alzheimer's with a positive spirit and faith. Born in Odessa, Texas, on Feb. 12, 1947, to Bill and Elaine Monroe, she spent her childhood in the oil camp of North Cowden. She attended Odessa public schools, graduating from Odessa High in 1965, continuing her education with a business degree. Donna was employed with Abbott Building Company in Odessa for 11 years where she met her husband Bob in 1983. Donna and Bob were married on Nov. 18, 1983. She and Bob and her son, Scott, moved to San Angelo in November 1983. Beginning in December 1983, she started a long career with Hirschfeld Steel Company that lasted for over 25 years, making many friends along the way. Donna is survived by her husband, Bob; and her son, Scott Ward, and wife Michele and granddaughters Kate and Lauren of San Angelo. Also surviving are her stepdaughter, Melissa Halfmann, and husband Tommy and grandchildren TJ and Hope of San Angelo, Natasha Perreira and husband Adam of Abilene and Benjamin Dickson of Rapid City, S.D. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Autumn and Summer Perreira. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Elaine Monroe; her sister, Sandra Wilson; and her stepson, Bill Schillinger. The family will be receiving visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with a private interment following in Odessa in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Alice Saldana, the staff at Bronte Health and Rehab Center and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com.

Grandma,

Its nice to read all that's been said about you. its like you will always be here in a way. I wish I could see you again but at the same time I'm glad I can't until I join you. We are all sad here on earth but you are the happiest you've ever been up there with Jesus.
I wear your jewerly everyday. It still smells like you. I feel like you're right there with me. Telling me that its okay because we will be together again someday.
I remember watching you put your makeup on in the mornings and bathing dj and numbers in the tub. I remember playing restraunt in the kitchen with sterling and you and grandpa humoring us by ordering countless dishes and "eating" them-all the while raving how delicious they were.
I remember when my daughter was born and we would all go to hobby lobby to just look.

Grandma,
Even though you're gone in a sense. A big sense-the one where there will be no hugs or kisses or new memories. You are still here encouraging us. "Go on, its okay, we will see each other soon"

LaDonna was my second cousin - Elaine Monroe, her mother, was my cousin. I was only with LaDonna a few times as we were growing up, but I remember her as being a very caring and kind person. I am so very sorry for your loss and was so glad that Ruth Adele Waggoner let me know of her death. Please be assured of my prayers for your family. Jan Everett High, Cary, NC

I lived up the road from LaDonna at North Cowden for 17 years. She sometimes rode with me to OHS instead of going by bus. Our families and several other families use to meet at 30 Mile Campground in Colorado. We had such good times and so many fun memories. I am very saddened to hear of LaDonna's passing. She was a very sweet and fun friend of my childhood. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My wife, Cindy, & I are in prayerful concern for the family members of LaDonna. She & I grew up in the same church & schools in Odessa. LaDonna will always be known to us by her sense of humor and concern for those she touched. I had the privilege to know her & her family growing up. They were all outstanding people & positive influences to so many.
So, today we celebrate LaDonna for your presence, her character, her humor and her faith. Though we will miss seeing her again here, we know exactly where she is ... and the memories of her in our lives is indelible and fresh.
