Ruben Almaguer Obituary
San Saba - Ruben Almaguer, Sr. was called by his creator on April 9, 2019. He was born on February 12, 1936 to Jesus and Leonora (Esquivel) Almaguer and he was a life- long resident of San Saba County. After graduation from San Saba High School, he became a truck driver but always remained close to the family's venture for hay farming and share cropping in the Wallace Creek community. Ruben joined the U.S. Air Force in the late 50's and returned to San Saba subsequent to his honorable discharge.
Ruben married Alicia Talamantez in 1961, and they established residence in San Saba while continuing farming and pursuing a custom hay baling business as well. He became an avid competitor in tractor pulling contests not only throughout Texas but also in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Richland Springs coyotes, his favorite team for years. Ruben had served on the San Saba ISD School Board and was a member of the San Saba County Young Farmers in recent years. Also Ruben was a member of the American Legion Post #27.
Ruben is survived by his wife: Alicia Almaguer; his children: Ruben Almaguer, Jr. and Norma Almaguer; grandsons: Marcus Almaguer, Ruben Turner, and Ashton Beal-Almaguer; four brothers (Joe, John, Manuel, and Jesus, Jr.), and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 14th, at 6:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rosary following at 7:00 PM. The service will be at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Saba on Monday, April 15, 2019. The burial is scheduled at Wallace Creek April 15, 2019, with an Honor Guard from the Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
