Lawrence "Larry" Arvid Price, age 96 1/2, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully the evening of Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. He was born on January 22, 1929, in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of the late Theodore and Marie (Bouchard) Price, and the youngest brother to the late Harold (Ann) Price and Ted (Louise) Price, all of Muskegon.
After graduating from St. Jean Baptiste High School in 1947, Larry apprenticed for a local pattern maker, earning $27 per week. His work ethic and dedication to pattern making earned him a deferment from joining the Korean War effort. He married the late Joyce Yvonne Larsen on June 9, 1951, and was blessed with 48 years of marriage and four children.
Pattern making was Larry's career and he worked as a draftsman and manager in the shop he shared with his brother, Ted, for over 40 years. He balanced work with many travels and outdoor adventures including helicopter skiing in Canada; elk hunting on horseback in Wyoming; trips to Ireland, France, South Africa, Alaska, South America, Greece, Turkey, Russia and Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where he bought a mountain top overlooking Lake Superior.
Larry was a member of the Muskegon Elks Lodge 274 for 69 years. At the end of a busy day, he could be found enjoying a cool beverage and a hot game of cribbage. He was a lifetime, avid game hunter, brook trout fisherman, stumper mushroom hunter, and wild huckleberry picker. Larry was also a gifted wood craftsman, who built furniture, duck boats, and the family log cabin and workshop near Thompsonville, Michigan, where the family gathered year-round. He especially enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, going sailing, and spending time with his family on weekend outings, picnics, road trips and regattas.
Larry is survived by his longtime companion, Janet Harestad of Spring Lake, Michigan, and the many members of her loving family who adopted Larry as their own. He leaves behind four children: J'nai (Harold) Closz, Peter (Nancy) Price, Kristi Mills (Bill Kinjorski) and Terri (Tony) Jakubowski; nine grandchildren: Christine Closz, Casey (Mary) Closz, Allison Price, Kora Mills (Chris Nettleton), Thomas Kinjorski, Mollie, Charlie and Anne Jakubowski, Jessie (Sebastian) Ayars; two great-grandchildren, Everett and Vera Nettleton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Memorial Mass for Larry will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Bill Vander Werff officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital and Harbor Hospice for the loving care they provided for Larry. Memorial contributions may be made to Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve, P.O. Box 5, Big Bay, MI 49808; or Spring Lake Junior Sailing Association, P.O. Box 444, Spring Lake, MI 49456. What a full, long, and wonderful life Mr. Price lived. I was wondering not long ago how Mr. Price(Larry) was doing.
I grew up knowing Larry and Joyce and the kids. We all skied together up at Manistee and had many other occasions together as my parents, Sue and Tom Russell, were friends.
Sorry for the loss of your amazing father, J´nai, Pete, Chrissie, and Terry. Thinking of you all at this time and sending loving thoughts and memories from Australia.

What a beautiful obituary of a wonderful man. There was nothing not to love about LArry Price. He was adventuresome, kind, fun, consistent and a delight to be around. We have shared many memories over the years - fishing trips, stays at the cabin at Crystal, fly fishing in Jackson Hole, camping on the south fork, etc., dinners out, and just as many golf trips! He was a special man. I still cannot believe he has left us - he will live on in our hearts forever as a true friend and one that we will always smile at the sound of his name! Rip Larry!

Pete and the extended Price family
I was sorry to hear of your father's passing .
Certainly a life well lived!
I always enjoy running into Mr Price, the conversation always included to the days at St Jeans and playing basketball for my Dad.
I used to enjoy seeing him through the years in Marco Island where he and his great friend Happy Fox always cleaned a boatload of fish, followed by a few cold beers at Jack's Lookout
Enjoy your memories of a very good father.

The best skipper I ever crewed for on the E scow. He was always a gentleman and was a kind and gentle soul on the boat. I was blessed to have been part of his life.
