Charles Leonard Nielson
1940-2024
Charles died April 15th in Surprise Arizona, his winter home for over 20 years. He lived in Grand Rapids, MN, on Pokegama lake the rest of the year in a home he built from logs he took from a home on Bowstring Lake with the help of friends, family, and professionals.
He is survived by friends, family, and his wife Gail of over 60 years. His two sons Christopher, Bryan and their families, Mikayla, Shawna, Casey & Lily. A sister Margo from Salt lake city Utah, and her family Andy and Jenny.
He attended elementary , middle school and high school in Washburn North Dakota with brothers John and Tom who preceded him in death, as did his parents Leonard and Francis.
Chuck attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he received a BS, Masters Degree and PHD. He went on to teach in 2 middle schools in Hibbing, MN and Grand Forks, ND. He taught at the New School of Behavioral Studio at UND in Grand Forks, ND.
He went on to work at Itasca Community College where he was involved in the Learning Skills Center until retirement.
Chuck was a committed educator. When people needed help he was there. HE Cared!!! He will be missed my many students, friends, and family.
