David LaBine Obituary

LaBine, David L.

David L. LaBine, 64, De Pere, Wis., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014. David was born on Jan. 18, 1950, in Green Bay, Wis., son of the late Ferdinand and Garnett (Egan) LaBine. He grew up in Long Lake, Wis. and graduated from Florence High School in 1968.

David joined the United States Navy in 1969 and served four years as a radioman. He married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda Hoaglund, on Nov. 25, 1969, in Green Bay, Wis. This year would have marked their 45th wedding anniversary. David worked as a heavy equipment operator, a fabricator, and a truck driving instructor, then spent the last 31 years as an owner-operator independent contractor, logging over 3 million miles.

He was a resident of Aurora, Wis., from 1976 to 1988 and served on the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department. He then moved to De Pere, Wis., where he resided for the past 26 years. David enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time on his land in Aurora. His greatest joy came from being with family and friends. David will be missed and remembered by many for his kind and helpful nature as well as for his gifted storytelling ability.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of De Pere; children Andrea LaBine and Brian (Jennifer Sicard) LaBine, Green Bay, Wis.; brothers, Fritz LaBine, Long Lake, Wis.; Jim (Deb) McMullen, Louisburg, N.C.; Art (Janet) LaBine, Abrams, Wis.; and sister, Isabel (LaBine) Stuhlmacher, Green Bay, Wis.; grandchildren, Olivia LaBine-Gellerup, Alexis, Shonn, and Seth LaBine, Indica Lake Jendeski, and great-granddaughter Chloe Cantu; father-in-law, Ralph Hoaglund, Homestead, Wis.; many nieces, nephews; and special friends, Hope Balthazor, Noah and Preston Kindness, and Shamus and Sawyer Mann.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry and Albert McMullen; one sister, Grace Halada; mother-in-law, Rhoda Hoaglund; and his beloved daughter, Heather (LaBine) Bahr.

There will be a memorial gathering for friends and family at the Aurora Town Hall in Aurora, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Aunt Rhonda, Andrea, and Brian - I am so so sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to find peace and can stay strong through this very difficult time. Family is everything, and I pray you find comfort in all of those able to be there with you. I know it's what Dave would have wanted for you all.

Uncle Dave - I suppose it's time for you to log some miles in heaven now. Happy trails! Know you will be missed by those of us still here until we are all reunited again one day. Give my love to all who were there to greet you with open arms. Love you!
