Nathan Lane Obituary

XENIA — Nathan H. Lane passed peacefully on April 21, 2025. He was dearly loved and will be missed immeasurably by his family and those whose lives he touched. We cherish the promise of reuniting with him one day. Nathan was born on March 20, 1943, and grew up at Orchard Lane. He attended the one-room schoolhouse on Hilltop Road and graduated from XHS. After college, traveling the world, and starting his family, he returned to Xenia and built The Apple Tree restaurant. Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Rachel (Jones) Lane, and brother, Dan Lane. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Karen, and their children: Shea (Kipp) Peterson, Nathan Sean (Janice) Lane, Jonathan (Beth) Lane, and Paige (Chad) Stettler, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and brother, Jim B. Lane. Nathan's interests and experiences had no bounds. He was eager to engage in conversation and always had a great story to tell. He was generous with his resources and quick to pray with anyone. His genuine relationship of trust in God is the legacy that he has passed on. It brings the family delight to think of his heavenly conversations now. Please join the family for a Memorial Celebration of Nathan's Life on Sunday, June 8, 2025, 2:00 p.m. Orchard Lane Events, 2187 State Route 235. Condolences/Blessings/Donations may be sent to: Karen Lane, 1658 Shady Cove Lane, Florence, KY 41042.

To Karen and family, I was an original employee of The Apple Tree when it very first opened. My claim to fame was not knowing I was to pin my wrap around tartan skirt closed. On my first day, after quite a while of serving customers, Karen came to my side and ushered me upstairs, into the women's dressing room and turned me around to the mirror. Uh-Oh!!! Going back downstairs was the difficult part. Lesson learned. You also taught me a life changing lesson - career inspiration of high-quality food preparation and service, customer service, and catering. I have catered hundreds of parties and events over the years along with my business The Cake Walker - Delicious and Decorated Cakes for all occasions. You may never have realized it, but the voices and lessons of Nathan and Karen Lane have been with me every step of the way. "An appetizer should only be one bite." "To get people to mingle, don't give everyone a chair. If given a table and chair, people will sit and not socialize." "Roll a meatball lightly, never too tight." The recipes... seasoned mashed potatoes, Cure 81 ham because it is the best, marinated vegetable salad the number one most requested salad at the buffet, Kiwi, melon balls and carved melon bowls, how to quickly hand cut apples and steam oranges for easy peeling for fresh fruit salad... You have been a HUGE part of my life and happiness!!!!!! I passed all of your wisdom and my own life experiences along to my daughter. Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!!! I know Nathan is having a great time in heaven visiting with everyone; his family and friends including President Ronald Reagan who you met while catering an event in California when he was the Governer. Karen, you and Nathan did so much more than just open a restaurant. You opened the door for lifetime friendships that were made there, happy memories cherished forever, skills for survival to eat, skills so you can always have a job/career preparing food, how to display food to be esthetically pleasing and appetizing, how to work to be a good employee. I may have given both of you gray hairs and a lot to discuss in private, but YOU gave me so many positive skills and lessons that are a major part of my life. I will never be able to thank you enough. The lesson is, you have no idea the ripple effect of your efforts. God is praising Nathan for his positive ripple effects. Well done, Nathan. Well done. (Well Done by The Rafters, is one of my favorite spiritual songs that would especially pertain to Nathan and Karen. I highly recommend you listen to it, if you don't know it already.) Looking forward to seeing you at the Memorial Service on June 8th. Much Love to Karen, and all of the family!!! Sincerely, Lora Marshall Walker
