Tommy Pope Obituary

KERNERSVILLE TOMMY VICTOR POPE, 73, WENT HOME TO be with his Lord September 23, 2018. Funeral service celebrating his life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Services Chapel. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. A native of Guilford County, Tommy was the son of the late Gertie Ray Merritt and Avery Bryant "A.B." Pope. He had worked at William Steel Company in Greensboro until their closing in the late 90's. In September of 1994, Tommy and his wife "Sandy" were called into the radio Christian ministry at WPET in Greensboro. At WPET, they would serve the Lord for twenty-four years. The name of their program was "The Teachers Pulpit," which continues today. In addition to his parents, Tommy also was preceded in death by his sisters Margie Catlett, Bernell Jessup, and Geneva Warren; brothers A.B., Jr., Amos, Jessie, Herbert, Wallace, and Ray Pope; nieces Pamela Garcia, Ruth Collins, Rebecca Eagle, and Sandy Knight; and nephews Phillip Pope and Jimmy Pope. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra "Sandy" Marine Pope of the home; sisters Nancy Potts and Pauline Middleton and her husband Sam; brother Lee Pope and wife Carolyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will visit with friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Friends and family may sign, and view the guestbook at www.Pierce-JeffersonFuneralService.com.
