Bill Barnette Obituary

Billy Joe "Bill" Barnette, 70, husband of Carolyn Elliott Barnette, of 207 Lakeside Drive, Walhalla, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Oconee Memorial Hospital, Seneca.

Born in Prattville, Alabama, Mr. Barnette grew up in Inman, S.C. He was the son of the late William W. and Mary Kate Spencer Barnette. He was a graduate of Chapman High School in Inman, S.C., received a B.M. Ed. Degree at Louisiana State University, and earned an M.S. degree from Western Carolina University. Mr. Barnette served in the 525th U.S. Air Force Band. He served as Band Director of Walhalla Schools for 27 years and retired from the School District of Oconee County Technology Department in 2000. Mr. Barnette was a former member of Walhalla Lions Club and a member of MENC. He was a member and former Deacon of the Walhalla Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Barnette is survived by brother, S. Eugene Barnette and wife, Elizabeth DeFrehn Barnette, of Pinehurst, N.C.; sister, Sandra Barnette Godwin and husband, Hilton H. Godwin, of Prattville, Ala.; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pets, Katie and Molly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, from Walhalla Presbyterian Church with a private interment to follow in Heritage Memorial Gardens, Westminster.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the church prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Walhalla Presbyterian Church for the Xpujil Mexico Mission Trip, P.O. Box 917, Walhalla, SC 29691 or to the charity of one's choice.

The family is at the residence.
