Gary Cottingim Obituary
Dr. Gary Allen Cottingim, 52, husband of Debbie Strawhorn Cottingim, died May 29, 2004.
Born in New Orleans, La., he was a son of Audrey Sissons Cottingim of Las Vegas, Nev., and the late Thomas Melvin Cottingim.
Dr. Cottingim graduated from University of Southern Mississippi and the University of Mississippi Medical School. He was a family physician with Pelham Family Practice. Since 1984, he also owned and operated Southern Microware, a computer consulting firm. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, Medical Academy of Family Physicians, South Carolina Medical Association and the American Medical Association. For several years, he served on the Executive Board of Greenville County Medical Society and was the former chief of the Family Practice Department at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Greenville Magazine named Dr. Cottingim one of the best physicians in Greenville and the Southeast.
In addition to his wife and mother, Dr. Cottingim is survived by a daughter, Ashley Cottingim Ross, her husband, Christopher David Ross and grandson Alexander James Ross of Greenville; two sons, Stephen Gregory Cottingim of Greenville and Matthew Chad Cottingim of Atlanta; a sister, Kim Gilbert, her husband Tim and their children Patricia and Scott of West Layfayette, Ind.; a brother, Kevin Cottingim of Las Vegas, Nev.; sister-in-law, Cordelia Cottingim of Dallas, Texas and her daughters, Britton Cottingim of Dallas and Katie Cottingim of New Orleans, La. Dr. Cottingim was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Cottingim of Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin. The Rev. John Yost will officiate. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. at the church for one hour prior to the service. An honorary escort will include Dr. Lyn Hammond, Dr. Wayne Hanna, Bob Thompson, Bill Pervical, Dr. Brad Williams, John Mazzaro, Kevin Cheek, Blair Tidmarsh and Dr. Glen Daves.
