William Jackson Obituary

William Shafter Jackson Jr., DVM, of 101 Normandy Road, passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., Monday, Nov. 25, 2002.

Dr. Jackson attended Clemson University, and was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. In 1966, he established Ambassador Animal Hospital on Wade Hampton Boulevard, where he continued to practice veterinary medicine. He was a member, and served as past president, of Greenville County Association of Veterinarians, and was a member of the S.C. Association of Veterinarians as well as the American Veterinary Medical Association. In 1998, Dr. Jackson received the Distinguished S.C. Veterinarian of the Year Award.

Dr. Jackson was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville, the Seminar Sunday School Class, and was a former Deacon.

Born in Sumter, Dr. Jackson was the son of the late William Shafter Jackson Sr. and Reba Beatson Jackson.

Surviving are his wife, Cecelia Kolb Jackson; his son, William Shafter Jackson III, and his wife, Wendy Hammond Jackson, of Greer; his daughter, Wendy Jackson Behlke, and her husband, Bob, of Greenville; and six grandchildren, Wilson, Weston and Abbywynn Jackson, and Ashley, Rocky, and Cave Behlke. Survivors also include two sisters, Nina J. Knowles of Lexington and Becky J. Walton of Gilbert.

Memorial services, with the Rev. Dr. Baxter Wynn officiating, will be held Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Greenville, with burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday, from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Narthex at the church.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601; or, to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St., Greenville, SC 29605.

The family will be at the residence. - The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
