It was truly an honor to work for Andy, Robustelli Travel, and be a part of his "family" . I called him my "Godfather", and credit him for launching my 40 year career in the Travel Industry! A hug from ANDY was an amazing encouragement! I have no words for the gratitude I feel for him and his confidence in me...I think of those days often, and feel such a warm fuzzy feeling! He may be gone, but will never be forgotten! Much Love,

I was the Captain of the 'Ed&Andys little league team in 1962, we won the league championship and Mr. Robustelli got the whole team jackets. What I remember most however were all the times he would speak at league banquets whether little league, pop warner or babe ruth, it was commonplace. Frankly I just thought this was the way it was supposed to be. Imagine today a celebrity of his status spending a Tuesday night speaking to a bunch of kids in a grade school cafeteria!!! They don't make them like Andy Robustelli anymore. Your kindness and friendliness have stayed with me all these years.

Lost my dad at the age of 12 in 1963. I can vaguely remember him telling me that Robustelli was in the seminary with him at St. Basil's Prep in Stamford.
While in Stamford 15 or so years ago, I tried to reach him to confirm the story and, after a few minutes of explanation to his call taker, he picked up and explained that it was his brother who attended St. Basil's.
He didn't need to take my call but did.
What a kind and engaging gentleman!!!

To the entire Robustelli family: ANDY (as we all refer to him) was THE finest human beings I ever met, and revered. He told me of his daily NY commutes with former Mayor, later National Basketball Commissioner Walter Kennedy. When I became Mayor of Stamford (during the race riots -- yes Stamford had them, but now the story be told, I had ANDY take over to stop the West Hill High School and ALL students go back to school the NEXT school day, settle many antagonistic problems as I knew of the ENTIRE communities respect for ANDY. Much earlier, while I was Executive Director of the Italian Center I was asled by Danny Thomas' representative to serve as Chairman for St. Jude's Hospital, ANDY was gratiou to serve as a co-chairman -- and STAMFORD did very well to help build the FIRST section of ST> JUDE -- which accepts all children with cancer FREE of Charge. His GIANT numer 81 will also remain engrained in my heart. ANDY loved STAMFORD and we loved him. Condolences to each of AR's family and may he rest in Peace. Bruno, Mayor of Stamford 1967 - 1969.

Our condolences to the Robustelli Family. I watched Andy play ball for many years and will never forget him. My wife worked for Andy and Tommy in Stamford at the agency.
God bless him and Lord, take care of Andy.

June 7, 2011

As I sit here a week later, I still can't find the words to express how I feel. Working for Andy Robustelli was an honor, and an experience so many of us will always cherish. He was a man of integrity and always tried to get the best out of all of us. It was a place of business, yet we were all like family. Like many an Italian father...he would yell at us one minute, then pass out candy or ice cream (or sneakers or t-shirts!) the next!
Our love and sympathy go out to all the family, many of whom I will always consider friends.
Andy and 'Nana' are together again. Those who have been left behind will miss him, but he is happy and at peace once again. There is consolation in knowing that.
With love and deepest sympathy.

June 2, 2011

I knew Andy when I was a kid working summers and Sundays with the Giants. Outside of Wellington Mara, Andy was the man I respected most out of that wonderful group of people. It was the way he carried himself.

He was a tough/tender dad for his sons Rick and Bobby, who were the younger Robustellis I knew. Andy wasn't above giving me an earful, either, when my teenage behavior didn't meet his standard.

Andy and I shared a Stamford connection as well as the Giants. My mother, Mae Graf Lavelle, used to joke with Andy that he and she were the only two graduates of Arnold College (Bridgeport) connected with the NFL.

As a player, Andy was the exemplar of the modern NFL defensive lineman. Not very big, but mobile and, above all, smart.

We're all going to miss #81, now anchoring the defensive line in a whole other league. It was a privilege to know you, Andy. Vaya con Dios.

To all the members of Andy’s family, please accept my sincere sympathy. Andy’s nephew George Dooley was my friend and classmate in college. George never bragged about his famous uncle. Robustelli family:
Your Dad will always be remembered by me for his warm, friendly nature, his competitive spirit, and most of all for his willingness to accept people as they are. I played baseball against your Dad and needless to say, I feared him when he came up to bat against me. He was a load.
My prayers are with the entire family and I have already asked your Dad to save me a place in heaven with him.
God bless,
Chuck Symeon

I am 63 years old and my memories of days watching Andy Robustelli and the Giants on black and white TV are vividly brought back to me at this time of his passing. God bless Andy and his family.

Richard, Tina, Paul, and Michael: Please accept my sincere deepest sympathy over your loss. Andy was a good friend and employer during my 20 years in Stamford and was the true definition of a gentleman. He had a great life and impacted many people. May he now rest in peace.
