Edith McHugh Obituary

EDITH L. MCHUGH, 100, a former resident of East Scranton's Hill Section for more than 80 years, died Thursday in Greenwich. She was the widow of John J. McHugh who died in 1967. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Mary Clifford Burkhart. She was a graduate of Athens PA High School, and the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing in Sayre , PA. She had worked for the Visiting Nurse Association of Scranton, was a school nurse in the Dunmore School District , and then did private duty nursing at the Moses Taylor Hospital . She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, East Scranton, had been an active member of the Century Club, and the 800 Club, both of Scranton . Surviving are two sons, John R. McHugh and wife Shirley, Greenwich, and William D. McHugh and wife Kay, Sugarloaf, PA; she was the loving grandmother to five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Rita Preston and a brother Atty. Al Burkhart. The funeral was held Monday with mass of Christian burial and entombment in Scranton , PA.
