Mrs. Pickett and family, I was a classmate of Doug's at Columbia High and remember him fondly as we had a couple of classes together. From the comments I've seen it is no surprise that he touched so many lives and lived his life to the fullest. I'm saddened by his passing but so glad I knew him.

Dee, Clete and Chad, I am so very shocked and saddened to hear about Doug. He will be missed greatly by so many people. I didnt know him well, but loved him dearly as I do the three of you. Dee, Clete, and Chad: I am so sorry for your loss. Doug's passing has reminded us, once again, that life is short and we should make it count. As evidenced by the attendance, Doug made it count. Chad and Clete,
I am deeply saddened to hear of your father’s passing. I didn't know him very well, but both of your parents have always been more than kind to me throughout the years. I know your family will remain strong and as good hearted as you have always been. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers as well as my families. There aren't enough words I can say about how great of a coach and person that Coach Pickett was, but i will cherish and miss my days in eigth grade football for the rest of my life. My families and my own prayers go out to his family and heaven is lucky to have a guy as great as Coach was with them.

I was very saddened by the news about Doug. He has left us way too soon. Reading several of the testimonies from people who's life he touched was very moving as I knew Doug from a different side of life. We played ball together, worked together and in general had many good times for years at UGA games (home & away) even after I turned traitor (his words) a few years back. Who can ever forget the leader of the Dawg cage in Jacksonville! Doug was full of life and I never saw him down. Dee, and the boys, may God Bless you during this difficult time.

Dee, When we learned of your loss we were devestated. The times we spent together with Doug when he coached Michael were priceless. We feel we were blessed to have known the two of you and your boys, and we will miss Doug with all our hearts. Our prayers will be with your family in the days to come. Coach Pickett is my favorite coach of all time! Even though I was the smallest member of the team, Coach Pickett still believed in me (8th grade Broncos 1999 - 2000). I will miss you Coach Pickett. Chad, I am very sorry for your loss and would really like to hear from you, miss talking with you.

Please accept my deepest sympathies for the passing of your father/husband. I always considered Mr. Pickett as a second father while growing up with Chad and Clete playing sports and everything. I know my parents considered him a dear friend as well. He was always guaranteed to bring joy and a smile to my face while seeing him as a kid and later in college while home in Gwinnett. I will miss him, and so will everybody else that knew him. I am very sorry that I will not be able to attend in person due to work, please do not hesitate to call or email me if you need anything at all.

I was fortunate to have Coach Pickett as a position coach for defensive ends in 8th grade. I remember him being quite possibly the most enthusiastic coach I've ever come in contact with and was a lot of fun. More importantly, he was a great example of character and respected his players on and off the field. My prayers are with the family and I know he's in a better place.

Coack Pickett coached out oldest son Brandon Baker when Brandon was in youth football. Coach Pickett was a great coach and mentor for my son. He was always there for the kids and preached the positive aspects of football. His memory will live on in our minds and hearts. He was a blessing to The Gwinnett League & Brookwood Football. Words cannot express what Doug has meant to everyone who came into contact with him. He was a builder of young men and molded them into future leaders. We are all greater people by having known him. Your legacy you left to this world will always be remembered. As long as I am around your contributions to GFL will never be forgotten. It was you Doug Pickett,that I would have chosen my son to emulate in regards to character. I would like to thank GOD, for the time he allowed us, for you to touch our lives. The GFL will not dwell on the loss that has been handed to us. We instead, will focus on all you contributed, to so many of our youth over the years. Your lessons went so much further than just the football field. The lessons you taught young men were character traits they could carry on for life.

Coach Pickett is probably one of the greatest coaches I've had in any sport. With his support I had one of the most fun and successful seasons (8th Grade Football) I've yet to top to this day.
He always had a serious face on, but if you knew him well enough then you'd see how funny he really is.
