GREGORY ARTHUR SHERWOOD
Gregory Arthur Sherwood passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2024. He was 75 years old. Greg was born on April 17, 1949 in Perry, Iowa to Lowell and Mary Lou Sherwood. Shortly after birth, Greg's parents relocated to Percival, Iowa where they owned and ran Sherwood Lumberyard. Spending time with his dad at the lumberyard shaped his love for design and build. He was especially proud of the garden tractor that he designed and put together.
Greg graduated from Sidney High School in Sidney, Iowa in 1967. While there, he played football and clarinet in the Sidney High School Marching Band. After high school, Greg attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, Missouri for two years. He then transferred to the University of Missouri-Rolla in Rolla, Missouri where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
After completing one year of graduate school, Greg moved to Peoria, Illinois to work as a civil engineer for Dailey & Associates. Later, he joined the engineering firm of Randolph & Associates where he later became a partner in the firm. After retiring from Randolph & Associates, Greg moved back to his hometown of Percival to help his dad at the lumberyard. He also started his own construction business, building houses and doing various remodeling jobs.
Greg is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Sherwood of Sidney; his former wife, Linda Kingery; his children, Shelly Storey (Jeff) of Beaver Creek, Colorado and Greg Sherwood of Sidney; 5 grandchildren, Kyle Scholtz of Brooklyn, NY, Ali Scholtz of New York City, NY, Skylar Scholtz of Nashville, TN, and William and Killian Sherwood of Sidney; 5 siblings, Susan (Vince) Hilton of Sidney, Jean (Steve) Wall of Kent Washington, Ross Sherwood of Omaha, Julie Gallagher of North Liberty, Iowa, Gary Sherwood of Sidney, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Lowell Sherwood.
Greg will always be remembered as a funny, ornery and busy guy. He consistently had a smile on his face and he was always up for a good time. A dear friend described him by saying, "his inner child was very robust." Greg was very proud of his children and had a deep love for his family. He was a perfectionist yet that often made him a procrastinator. He was the guy who would walk into the bar alone, but leave with three new friends. He loved music, dancing, and shopping at estate sales. He also loved Delorean's, a passion that truly stayed with him until his final days.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, November 9, 2024 at the United Faith Church in Sidney, IA with a Memorial Service at 1:30 PM. There will be no viewing or visitations. Private disposition of ashes will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
Alzheimer's Association. The Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
