News Death Notice

RUNGE, Charles W. "Charlie" Died unexpectedly while enjoying an evening run, Thursday, November 1, 2012. Age 55. Husband of Cheryl L. Runge (nee Murata). Father of Peter and Paul Runge. Son of the late Dr. Paul Runge and Anne Baxter. Brother of Miriam and the late John Runge, Amy Gaffney and Carolyn (Danny) Gammerman. Loved by other relatives and friends. Charlie was a graduate of Talawanda High School In Oxford, OH. Beloit College and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Phi Beta Kappa. He dedicated his working life to healthcare administration at numerous hospitals before joining Froedtert Hospital in 1995 during the County Hospital buyout. Most recently, he was Froedtert Healths Sr. Vice President for Planning and Service Line Management. He felt honored to contribute to improving the quality of healthcare in the Milwaukee area. A celebration of Charlies life will take place at St. Matthews Ev. Lutheran Church, 1615 N. Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa, WI on Friday, November 9m at 11AM. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 9:30AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Froedtert Hospital Foundation in the name of the Charlie Runge Family Fund, 9200 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53226, or the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW), 820 N. Plankinton Ave., P.O. Box 510498, Milwaukee, WI 53203-0092. Charlies love and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I knew Charlie as a classmate in high school and attended Young Life with him. Although we didn't keep in touch, he is always remembered fondly, and I'm so sorry for your suddent loss! I saw Charlie two days before his passing when I was in the executive suite putting up signs. His comment was signs again and that was the last words I heard. May he rest in peace.

The Administrative Fellows of Froedtert Hospital will deeply miss Charlie. Though observation and various project work we were all able to witness what true leadership was. Charlie was always willing to help and provide mentorship with a smile. We admired his work ethic and strategic acumen. We will all be better individuals and leaders because we had and opportunity to work with him.
