News Death Notice

VICKERS, Floyd E. age 82 of St. Clair Township passed away in Westover Retirement Community on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 8:46 PM. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on March 6, 1927 the son of Neal and Millie (Nunn) Vickers. Floyd was a member of the Hugh Bates Lodge #686 F&AM, the Syrian Shriners of Cincinnati, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Desert Holding Corporation, Hamilton Shrine Club, Hillbilly Clan #5, I.U. of O.E. Local #18, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Butler County. He was the owner/operator of Floyd Vickers Wrecking for 45 years, retiring in 2001. On May 7, 1945 in Drip Rock, Kentucky he was married to Geneva Richardson, and she preceded him in death in 2006. He is survived by one daughter, Betty (Ken) Singleton of Grayson, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jennifer Singleton, Liz (George) Faughnan, Melanie Vickers, Jeff (Amy) Mainous, Meritta (Bob) Harris, and Melissa (John) Fink; six great-grandchildren, Alasdair, Taylor, Lynley, Hannah, Kelsi, and Mackenzie; and Sweet Pea, his favorite dog. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Merit Vickers in 1993; and one brother and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Paul Mills of the Trenton Nazarene Church officiating and a eulogy by his granddaughter Liz Faughnan. Entombment will be in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shrine Children's Hospital or Victory Junction Gang. Hugh Bates Lodge #686 F&AM will hold services at the funeral home on Monday at 7:00 PM, followed by the Scottish Rite Ring Service.
