James Vickers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Urban Winkler Funeral Home - Connersville on Mar. 5, 2026.
Our earthly hearts are broken and we miss him already; our Godly hearts know that he is no longer in pain. James A. Vickers of Cambridge City, IN passed away in the comfort of his home with his family by his side on March 5, 2026, at the age of 89. James was born on April 29, 1936, in Jackson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Charlie and Flora Fox Vickers.

James was united in marriage to the love of his life, the former Marilyn Gabbard, on August 20, 1966, in McKee, Kentucky. Together they shared 59 years of marriage prior to his death, and they were blessed with two children.

James was a member of the Park Road Christian Center with his wife for over 50 years. He retired from Ford/Visteon after 15 years of service in 2003. Prior to that he worked in several area factories. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, going 4-wheeling, hunting and fishing in his youth. He was an avid cornhole player, having won many championships around the state. James loved being in the company of his family and friends.

His memories will be forever cherished by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Shannon A. (Mike) Turner; son Pernell (fiancé Shani Riley) Vickers; grandchildren, Trey (Jessica) Vickers, Tyler Vickers, Andrew Turner and Aaron Turner and a great granddaughter, Eva Rae Vickers. He is also survived by his sisters, Faye Reese, Haley Reese and Annalee Pennington; and special friends, James & Darlene Gray and BJ McKinney, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was welcomed into heaven by his parents; daughter-in-law, Julia Vickers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorsey (Balmer) Vickers, Virgil (Geraldine) Vickers, Lowell (Caroline) Vickers, Delbert (Elzona) Vickers and Oscar Vickers; sisters and brother-in-law, Thelma (Charlie) Wright, and Imogene Eversole; and brothers-in-law, Glen Reese, Virgil Reese and Ben Pennington.

The family of James would like to thank his caregivers from Reid Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, 513 W 8th Street, Connersville on Tuesday March 10, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Family and friends may gather and share memories from 11:00 am until the hour of the service. James will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
