Mary Frances Winks, age 95, of
Upper St. Clair, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family, while in prayer, and listening to the Word of God. Mary was born on December 19, 1930, in
Connersville, Indiana, to John Clinton and Beulah Frances (Kerschner) Hubbell.
She grew up during the depression era, on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work, dedication to family, and "making do with what you have". As a child she was active in 4-H. Mary graduated from Connersville High School in 1949. She went on to attend Purdue University, graduating in 1953, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. While at Purdue, she met her beloved husband of 55 years, Donald K Winks, whom she married on December 20, 1953. Mary briefly taught school in Cambridge City, Indiana, and Festus, Missouri, before moving to Upper St, Clair, PA in 1973. Later in life, she worked for Horne's/Lazurus/Macy's, before retiring in the mid 2000's.
Mary had a strong faith, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Upper St Clair, where she was active in Presbyterian Women, and the Chancel Guild. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AS, Upper St Clair; as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. While her children were growing up, she was a Brownie Troop Leader, a proud Little League Mom, Mother Advisory in the International Order of Rainbow Girls, and supportive of whatever her children were involved with.
Mary loved owls. She liked to play bridge, do crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and travel, but her greatest passion was gardening. She loved to feel the earth under her hands, and between her fingers. Mary enjoyed watching her beloved Purdue Boilermakers, but would always "leave the room" if the game was too close, or they were losing. She did not want to be the cause of their demise.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 siblings and their respective spouses, as well as a beloved niece. She is survived by her loving children Gregory (Kate) Winks, and Marta Winks, both of Pittsburgh. Two step-grandchildren, and seven step great-grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Mary and her family greatly enjoyed and appreciated the weekly visits from her caregivers at AHN Healthcare at Home. Thank you for taking such good care of her.
Mary will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and twinkle in her eye.
