Guadalupe Baker Obituary

Guadalupe "Lupe" Castillo Baker, 50, passed away at her home in Redding on Wednesday, April 23, 2008. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Lupe was born in Lamont on Dec. 14, 1957 to Jose and Maria Castillo. She was raised with nine brothers and sisters; her sisters, Juanita Rivera, Elena Garza, Olivia Torres, Gracie Alcala and her brothers, Joe Castillo, Coni Castillo, Frank Castillo, Robert Castillo (deceased), Michael Castillo and Luis Castillo. Lupe married Michael Baker on Jan. 31, 1987 and together they raised two daughters, Erika and Kristina.

Lupe worked 28 years as a narcotics officer for the Department of Justice and more recently worked at the Redding Rancheria as their tribal police chief. In her spare time she volunteered for local organizations such as the Palo Cedro 4-H Club.

Lupe enjoyed several activities such as 'Bunco' and working in her beautiful garden of over 100 rose bushes. She was fond of taking trips to both Hawaii and Mexico with her family and friends. All will miss her vibrant and strong personality.

In lieu of sending flowers please make remembrances in Lupe's name to either the Mercy Hospice, C3; Colorectal Cancer Coalition (found at http://www.fightcolorectalcancer.org/donate.htm), or the Guadalupe Castillo-Baker Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 22792 Bakersfield 93390, for young students pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Lupe's close friends will be notified of the future Memorial Service coming in the following weeks.

Mike, Erika, Christina, I'm sorry for your loss, but know that I am keeping you all in prayer. My mom was telling me stories about her and my nina when they were young and it made me smile. Even though I didn't get to know here that well, I know she was a great person and touched many lives. I pray that God comfort you all. God Bless

Mike, Kristina, Erika and The Castillo families,
I was so saddened to hear of my Comadre's loss. I will always have nice memories of her. She was and will always be a mentor for me and my daughter, her Goddaughter Natasha Castillo who is also following her Nina's footsteps in Law Enforcement. You will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Even though the years went by I could still see her face smiling, glowing and laughing with the updated stories we would share over the phone and emails together on how our families were growing. We had some good times back in the days. Please keep in touch and know I will always be here too. May God comfort you at this time and always. Love, her Comadre' Jeannette (Pichardo),Rudy, Chazz, Dante`, Natasha and Raymond Jr. Castillo

To Lupes Family,
You are in my prayers and thoughts. Lupe was an inspiration. I worked with her for 2 years at the Rancheria were she found a place in my heart! She became a true friend! Even after leaving the rancheria she is one of the few who continued to stay in contact with me! I miss our lunch dates! I share your loss of one of the most courageous and beautiful woman I have ever meet in my life! May you all find peace and acceptance as she herself did..
