Andrew Sullivan Obituary

Andrew M. Sullivan, Jr., 78, husband of Karen (Schiavone) Sullivan, passed into eternity on January 28th at Saint Francis Hospital with his four loving children by his side. Andrew spent his career as a CPA with KPMG LLP and its predecessor firms. He spent many years as the Partner-in-Charge of Tax. Andrew served on many Boards of Directors including ACMAT Corporation, Erickson Metals Corporation and as the Financial Chairman of Connecticut Resource and Recovery Authority. He was a member of The Greater Hartford Jaycees and served as Co-Chairman of The Greater Hartford Open (now The Travelers Championship) in 1974. He was a long-time trustee of the Mark Twain House and the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools. The son of the late Andrew and Loretta (Murphy) Sullivan, he was born on August 10, 1942 and graduated from Bulkeley High School and in 1964 graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. During his years at Georgetown, he worked at the United States Capitol. In addition to Karen his junior high sweetheart and his wife of 56 years, Andrew is survived by two sons, Patrick and Heather Sullivan of Glastonbury, Michael and Diane Sullivan of North Attleboro, MA, and two daughters, Kara and Robert Zdrojeski of Glastonbury and Colleen and Jay Gracey of Glastonbury. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Helen Sullivan and Nancy Phelon and brother-in-law Frank Schiavone. Andrew is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Preston Zdrojeski, Andrew Sullivan, Quinn Zdrojeski, Brendan Gracey, Patrick Sullivan, Lauren Gracey, Bobby Zdrojeski, Colin Sullivan, Meghan Gracey, Caleigh Sullivan, Sean Zdrojeski and Timothy Zdrojeski. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Sullivan. Andrew was a devout Catholic and an example of generosity and compassion for others. Andrew's fondest memories were spent cheering on each of his grandchildren at the many sporting events or dance recitals. He loved golfing, was an avid reader, traveled with Karen and friends, and enjoyed spending time relaxing with family at Point of Woods. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 1st at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Church of SS Isidore and Maria Parish, 2577 Main Street, Glastonbury. Eileen and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to Karen and the Sullivan family for their loss. Andy rescued me from audit duty by bringing a raw auditor into the tax department at Peat Marwick Mitchell in Hartford some 35 years ago; his outlook was always sunny and he enjoyed nothing more than visiting and serving his clients, and never saw him compromise his integrity. You just enjoyed working for him and with him. The profession has lost one of the good ones.

Andy "Skip" Sullivan was a quarterback on an outstanding 1959 Bulkeley team that finished 8-1for the second best record ever at that time. I remember he was a very strong student who graduated to Georgetown University. He emailed me recently about his relationship with Miles Davis, the current president of Linfield University, my alma mater. What I remember most about Skip at Bulkeley was his kind and gentile spirit.

Dear Kara and Sullivan Family,
Richard and I express our deepest sympathy to you for the loss of your beloved dad. Your dad must have been so proud of his children and grandchildren. Know your dad will be with you but in a different way~maybe hearing his favorite song, seeing a radiant star in the sky, or smelling his favorite meal is your dad making his presence known to you.
Much love and two big hugs fly your way.

Andy was one of the really good ones. I have known Andy well since he took the lead at Peat Marwick (now KPMG) in 1985, and at the same time i joined him from our audit team and transferred to tax. He was always a great mentor to me and many others. He didn't sweat the small stuff and was a great leader and more importantly a great friend. And did he always have great stories. Karen and Family, our deepest condolences. He will be missed but heaven is better now with him. peace and love to all.
