Barbara ELMORE Obituary

ELMORE, Barbara D. Barbara Katherine DeGroot Elmore, 82, died peacefully after a long illness on May 24, 2010, with her husband, J. Russell Elmore, by her side. Also surviving her are her sister Janet Adams, WV; brother Spencer DeGroot, FL; children, John Elmore and his wife, Pam, MI; Susan Elmore, NY; and Nancy Wendlandt, MA; son-in-law David Lewis, CT; and seven beloved grandchildren. Bobbe was deeply saddened when her fourth child, Sharon Elmore Lewis, lost her battle with cancer in 2001. Bobbe worked as a Registered Nurse, and in Human Resources at Waring Products in New Hartford and Ensign-Bickford in Simsbury. She served as Republican Party registrar for New Hartford, president of the New Hartford Garden Club, and volunteered at the Farmington Valley Arts Center. Bobbe really enjoyed life. She and Russell played tennis and golf together, and made many dear friends in their bridge group. She loved cooking, gardening, decorating, sewing, crafting, and painting. She loved to sing and filled the home with music. Bobbe's big, beautiful smile and sunny personality lit up a room. We will treasure in our hearts this beautiful life that has touched ours so deeply. You are warmly invited to join us in a grateful celebration of the life of Barbara Elmore, Saturday (June 5, 2010) 2 p.m., at the United Congregational Church, 1622 Torringford Street, Torrington, CT. Share your memories, stories, and thoughts. Light refreshments will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Women for Women International (www.womenforwomen.org).
