Charles Veit Obituary

Charles D. (Doug) Veit, 87, of Windsor Locks, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at home with his family and faithful dog Cupcake surrounding him. He was a very dedicated family man who lived a rich and full life. Doug will be missed dearly by his wife of 57 years, Gay Lynne, whom he loved more than anything; his three children, Daughter Lynne Ramage and her husband Dan, their children Jessica, David and Jacob, Son John and his son James, Daughter, Julie McKinstry and her children Shannon, Martin and Dakota. He also was blessed with two great grandchildren who he loved and adored, Brodyn and Berlin. Additionally, he leaves behind a brother in law Gary and wife Bobbie Patterson, and his extended family, Jim McKinstry, Julie Doherty and her two girls, Madelyn and Norabelle, and they loved him as the same. He is predeceased by his parents, Winifred and John Charles, his brother Jack and sister in law, in laws, brother in law, Martin and Dakota's Father, and his beloved grandson Tyler who we know was waiting up for him with open arms.? Doug was born on July 29, 1932 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He lived in Canada until the age of 16 when he moved to Rochester, New York and then later to Erie, Pennsylvania. Once in Erie, he met the love of his life, Gay Lynne, and they married on May 11, 1962. After leaving Erie, they lived in Burlington, VT and Milford, CT before finally settling in Windsor Locks. As a child, he loved fishing, sailing, playing in the woods and vacationing with extended family in Gaspe, Quebec to visit his grandfather's general store. Doug retired after many dedicated years at GMAC. He had a strong faith attending the Episcopal church and will be remembered and revered for his dedication to Calvary Church in Suffield. Through his faith, he made many dear friends, with Susan, Bill and Wendy as some of the closest. He was an avid camper, which he passed along to his family of all generations, and still was hopng to get his 1948 Greyhound bus rolling down the road with the Red Door Campers.? We would like to thank St. Francis Hospital, Mt. Sinai Cardiac Rehab, Meadowbrook of Granby and Trinity Home and Hospice for the great dedication and care they provided for "Charles." We would also like to offer special thanks to Sue Keefe, of St. Francis, for making his journey home possible, Robin Stasko for offering guidance during his final days, and Dr. W. Preskenis and his staff for many years of loving care. We welcome friends to join us at Windsor Locks Funeral Home on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 4p – 7p, and extend the invitation for a celebration of his life on Saturday October 12, 2019, 10:30a at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Enfield. All are welcome to join the family in a gathering at the church hall directly after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Enfield, CT or Outrun Addiction in Enfield, CT, which were both near and dear to his heart.
