Christian COLLINS Obituary

COLLINS, Christian A. Christian A. Collins, 63, of Cromwell Avenue, Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Sunday (January 17, 2010). He was born on March 6, 1946, in Hartford, to the late William and Anita Collins. Owner of Fair Weather Acres, Chris worked side by side with his family including his loving wife of 38 years, Mary (Keefe), and his son, Billy. Born a third generation farmer, Chris was a farmer in every sense of the word, his love of farming and desire to produce the perfect green bean steered the course of his life. He was a teacher, inventor, partner, and best friend to his son. A die hard prankster, Chris was known for his fun loving spirit and words of wisdom that his family has now dubbed "Chrisisms". He is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter, Melissa Tackett of Portland; a son, William Collins and his wife, Michele, of Cromwell; and daughter Jamie Collins and husband, Robert Doyle, of Norwalk; seven grandchildren Charlie, Samantha, and Travis Tackett, Andrew and Shaun Collins, and Ayden and Brianna Doyle, two sisters, Dorie Williams, and Joyce DiMartino and her husband, Roger, both of Rocky Hill; and six nephews and many friends. Friends are invited to the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St., Rocky Hill, Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. A Celebration of Chris' life will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart/American Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231. I remember Chris Collins from my days on the Neumann farm-Elm Street in the late 50's. His father "Billy" gave me job at the "stand". there I met Chris, his big smile and outgoing manner.
I so enjoyed his entire family. Britta Frisk was my best friend all those years in Rocky Hill and Chris, Britta, Doreann, and my brother Tim had a grand and glorious time all those great years.
Chris will be missed, in sympathy,

We are very saddened to hear of your loss.Chris was such a kind, and easy going person. His strength was remarkable throughout his illness. We will remember Chis with his great smile, and always caring for others. He was like a part of our family, visiting my Grandmother, and so close to my Uncle, and going to my Aunt Britta's services definitely showed his kindness and caring of others. Mary and family.
My prayers go out to you. Chris and I have gone to school Kindergarden through High School. We were both farmers I (part time) at my aunt's farm on West Street and he at his dad's. Everyone looked up to him because he was taller than most of us. May God bless him and you and your family. Ed Socha Jr.(Class of 64)

Dear Mary and the entire Collins Family:

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.

I feel I've been part of your family since 7th grade, when Joyce and I became friends, then partying with Dory while dating Walt. Walt and Chris were such jokesters, sometimes teasing me until I was in tears. Chris always worked hard and played hard. I will always remember Chris' infectious laugh. I am so glad that I had a chance to see him over the last few years while helping at the stand.

You are all in my thoughts at this difficult time.
